Forums - Sony - How big can PS4 be in Japan?

I think it has a good chance of doing better than the PS3, especially right out of the gate thanks to the price.

I don't see anything over 15 million, though.

Japanese gamers care more for handheld gaming. So the PS4 will be huge but not Godzilla huge.

I dont think next gen consoles will do well in Japan at all this cycle (just do not see the demand). I can see an easy 20-25% drop from PS3-PS4 from around 10.5m -> ~8m-8.5m about a 40-50% drop for the Wii to Wii U cycle 13m -> 6.5-7.5 mil

Yes, PS4 is the home console which is going to be ruling there from now onwards.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Whens the last time you were in Japan?

I'll say PS4: 12 miilion.
Japan is quite an easy market for Sony to win because Xbox One isn't a competitor, and the WiiU isn't huge.

Monster hunter is a handheld game. It does nothing for home consoles.

Dragon Quest X did nothing for Wii and WiiU

OP:  10m at max for PS4, Japanese market is dying fast.

My friends in Japan told me part of the problem they had with the PS3 was the massive size. That turned them off. But with the PS4 being smaller, cheaper and powerful, it looks more attractive. All it needs are great games. But even with that, I don't expect it to be a monster. It will be interesting to see how the software is distributed over there between it and the Wii U.
