lol what a boring, cynical, party pooper she is.

The World Cup is the greatest show on earth.

Everyone should support it.

I agree but try to support in the right way not like is happening in Brasil...

Example...

- Use of the public money in stadiums...
- Corrupt political agreements...
- Police unprepared for major events...
- Disorganization...
- Delays and poor infrastructure...

Even so the country need to have these major events.

Exactly.. it's not just about the world cup. This is simply the point of a gigantic iceberg of corruption and money being threw away over the last years. We pay one of the hightest taxes in the world while receiving the worst possible public services. If you want your son to have decent education, you need to pay for private school and believe me, it's not cheap (I spent almost one ps3 a month in education, using gaming terms). Same applies to health care. The only good roads are private, so you need to pay for them twice.

Just like ethomaz, I live near Sao Paulo city, so I'm not even in the worst part of the country. Had our money being spent wisely, we could have a great infrastructure and services.

Politicians do all kind of nasty stuff to stole public money, you won't believe if I start to tell them here.

I love soccer and I'm probably be watching some games, unfortunately a great even like the soccer world cup was the "enough" for Brazilian people.

It was far worse in 1978 when an Argentina under military dictatorship was allowed to host. The saddest football world cup tournament ever (and no, @Rol, not because of Cordoba).

Brazil may not have their best national team at the moment. Actually this team is far from being close to the best teams they ever had, but no doubt, the overwhelming fan enthusiasm will make up for that. Football is coming home.

reminds me of (no offense) "stupid" Ukraine where they had mobile crematorias and were driving around to burn dogs alive because suddenly they were annoying. You know ignoring the dog "problem" for decades and then suddenly needing to come up with a plan to fix the problem = LOL.

The EU gave them money to castrate the dogs but they kept the money and just cought and burned all the dogs.

Fuck this shit. And also fuck destroying peoples homes just so your street looks cleaner. Guess what instead of destroying it and destroying some lives invest a little bit more money and repair and clean the houses restore their old beauty.....

Money = cancer

Argentina is a viable country no?

Obviously, Ecuador is the better choice.

I dunno, really depends on how far they try to go to "sanitize" the areas for the world population and how much that negatively effects the poor.

No offense to your country, but it's been known to happen.

Oh and as far as economics go. Brazil is definitely the best place in South America though. I'd put them right up there with India and China on the "Next Superpower" short list.

Brazil has a bright future held back only by silly tariff laws.

Im from Chile so I like the idea that its so close, maybe I will go and watch some games depending on if my country qualifies which seems pretty likely.

So much of the data of economic benefits are nebulous to say the least. Hosting the biggest sporting event in the world will undoubtedly bring in a massive amount of money.

You are right to say though that infrastructure for such an event requires a certain level. Now, this can be a good thing if those improvements see use for years to come, such as upgraded road and rail.

There is also the argument that these events are a showcase for the world as massive tourism advertisement. How true that is? Hard to say and likely won't know for Brasil until 2020 or so how this all plays out.

I am a bit surprised in a football mad nation there would be this resistance. It will be 64 years since Brasil lost to Uruguay at the last World Cup there and always imagined Brasilians wanted it back pretty much ever since.

Pretty much this!! I have  recently moved back to Brazil after living in the US for 12 years

I've been helping my father-in-law with his business and let me tell you: those damn taxes really hurt the business.

I'll give some more insight on the subject when I get a chance

It was probably the most viable option in South America. What else would you have picked?

I wouldn't have picked a South American country, especially with the disproportionate costs to get it ready.

Well, then everybody would have hated you.

Brazil is the best South American country, but I don't they should have really been in the running. It was done just because there hasn't been one in a long time.
