No, I don't think Microsoft has been as bad.

The PR attitude towards customers has perhaps been a little worse on MS' front, but their console is cheaper, and has something of a lineup for the first year, whereas the PS3 was even more expensive than this and had one title worth owning for the first year of its existence.

Arrogancy. I just don't understand the badattitude of this people. So I say that both had the same PR attitude, and yeah, they're both comparable. There were differences, of course. MS showed the games but a policy that goes against gamers. PS3 was more like, no games, expensive, and just plain "buy it because Sony".

Well technically before it was Nintendo hate with the 64.. they had some bad PR for staying with carts.. then Sony.. but Sony was more arrogant than ever.. actually I think Sony was a little worse with their comments due to the time frame.. (The economy was starting to collapse.. and there is nothing more out of touch than telling hard working gamers.. they need to get another job to afford your system) Microsoft is not as bad.. but still very bad.. in their arrogance... but if there is one thing gamers are good at is serving up some humble pie.. Nintendo got it.. when they no longer dominated the Video Game Market like they used to.. due to mistakes they made.. Sega got it before.. when they made their mistakes with add ons.. (Almost forgot about them) Sony got it with a lousy launch.. and a whiplash effect on their PSP by all rights and purposes.. and now it's Microsoft's turn..

I agree 100%. Remember Ridge Racer was their golden game for the PS3?

Can anyone link me to an overview of Sony's PR during that time? Is there a book or a documentary? I heard a lot of stories, but since I didn't follow it much at the time, I don't have a complete picture.

I'd say this: It could only get better for PS3 after its release. It will only get worse for the Xbone.

I don't recall as much negativity around the PS3 launch. They still had a lot of people defending them and supporting them. They launch a $499-$599 console with very little in offering of games for quite a while. I don't know if Sony actually selling the console for that price is arrogant, but I suppose it could be looked upon as that. The arrogant part comes form how they said people would get 2 jobs just to be able to afford a PS3, that the 7th generation would start when they say it does (or something to that extent). I forgot who, but an executive at Sony made a bogus offer to pay anyone who could find a PS3 available at a retail store over, I believe, $1000; there may have been a few other things as well.

The direct quote: "Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity," Mattrick said. "It's called Xbox 360." And basically people seem to like negative spin for more effect. I guess it is just how you look at things. They plan continual support for the 360, it's not like they said screw you, go get a PS. However, that is how people are taking it. This is the internet, just like gossip, it just spreads a lot quicker and everyone adds a little of their own opinion into it.

As for the military, after the Xbox One console reveal, MS mentioned that they were looking at ways to allow people in the military to be able to use an Xbox One. I would need to look it up, as I can't remember exactly what they said.

The PR problem does come from some miscommunication; they need to get everyone together and release a statement outlining what they are planning. A lot of the policies are not set in stone. They will make adjustments when deemed necessary. However, if you noticed, even when they come out with a official statement, there are doubters. Just look at a few threads regarding anything positive about the Xbox One.

I don't see the thing with Xbox as being arrogant. They have a direction they want to take the Xbox in, there are benefits and drawbacks, but it should be up to you to decide which affects you the most. I like the familty share plan, and I have no problems with the online checks. I always connect to LIVE when I turn my Xbox on. Now I can share games with family and friends all around the US. They already said that you will still have access to your games if you are ban from LIVE, and when the generation is over; sales of games will be allowed, although it would be up to the publishers to determine it. I mean, I have no probems with this. None of these policies are detrimental to gaming for me, or any of my friends and family. We are all actually really looking forward to sharing a lot of our games.

Oh nice comment. The whole drm thing etc didn't really have that huge of an impact for my choice personally. I see both the ps4 and xbox one as pretty much the same system. I mostly play 3rd party games so I don't see a point in shelling out $100 more for xbox one. I prob won't use all those tv functions anyways. I have other stuff for that. I don't really agree with you on the don comment. I took it along the lines of, if your internet sucks then just stick to last gen. They could've just said we are looking into expanding the xbox one capabilities to accommodate those people or something like that. A pr spin of sorts. The internet thing doesn't affect me personally, but my first reaction was him pretty much saying fuck you to those who don't have good internet. I pc game a little bit(no steam), so I usually just want my console to be like it always has. The family share plan does seem pretty cool though.
