What I wanted to say, is that some people close their minds to just some games from the past, saying that, I think if they don´t do that, they will enjoy more modern games, and The last of us is a great example, but believe me, I had played a lot of games, I just want older people to accept that there can be great games in any time

If I get what you are saying, I agree.  It is OK to embrace both the new and old school.

And yes The Last of Us is a great game.

One thing I did notice is that there was some pop in, texture loading etc.  I don't remember any of that with Uncharted 2 or 3.  Not sure if my memory is failing or if Naughty Dog was rushing to meet schedule with this release per Sony  (before they move to the ps4 titles)

BTW, those saying this game was too easy on Hard etc. I died over 70 times on Normal. Maybe I just suck.

I am sort of impatient though.  And it doesn't help when a lot of your playing time was COD before you got this game lol.

And fully on topic. I thought the ending was good. Sort of a Godfather moment. Lied right to her face, selfish reason, etc. etc. Overall very well done voice acting / story in this game. I was also happy to see it took me a week or so to beat single player... seemed a little longer than Uncharted games which was a good thing.

Also, that scene where the clan leader is stalking Ellie in the burning building was very tense. A lot of good scenes in the game in general. Snow storm, Joel injured, the moment when the clan leader hints that you are the duo he is looking for (that killed half his men). Gripping game overall and made me want to keep playing.

Far more good in this game than bad, so Ill list some trivial complaints:

Some graphic glitches, pop in, white textures, etc. Im sure this was rushed to market because of PS4, etc. Not a huge deal though.

Scavenging became a little tedious IMO. Also, why have a gear worth 1 (to upgrade your weapon). Just place one there that is worth 5. I know nit picky but still.

Weapon switching could be a little clunky at times using the D pad.  Then again maybe they wanted it to be like that to add suspense.

Anyway, great game.

The more I think about Joel's decision, the more I wonder if it was worth it.

I think David really changed Ellie. She was obviously distraught with the lack of humanity those people displayed. It disgusted her. When she faced David, and had to slaughter him or else face rape and murder, I think she lost faith in "just surviving" at that point. She hated what these people had become, and I think she resented Joel a little bit after that because he displays many of the same brutal qualities as David. When they reach Salt Lake, she is obviously not as trusting of Joel, and not the same happy go lucky Ellie. The giraffe scene breaks the tension, but she doesn't seem like the same girl as before David. Then when she wakes up, she definitely knows something is up. Joel hastily constructs that lie about what happened, and she can tell. Then when they are walking to Tommy's camp, it seems to me like the relationship that was there is gone, replaced with a parasitic relationship. Joel needs Ellie, he has effectively replaced Sarah with Ellie. She is his baby girl now. Joel has stripped Ellie of her purpose, a purpose that she wanted, and then lied to her about it twice. She knows this, I don't think that the good father/daughter dynamic that they had will ever be the same. I don't think Ellie is going to stay with Joel.

To me, it's a more tragic ending then if either of them had died. I feel for Joel, he is the most real character I have seen in a game. But his actions are deplorable to say the least, and despite those actions, he still is not going to really get what he wants. The Ellie he loved died with David, and this Ellie isn't going to be around long.

I had butterflies in my stomach from the beginning of the Spring season, all the way through the end. I kept thinking, "ok around this corner, one of them is gonna die."

The ending felt a little sudden but reading some of the posts and thoughts here, it makes sense, the way they ended it. Joel knows he has to live with the burden of having lied to Ellie, but I'm glad he did what he did. Right or wrong, I didn't give a shit. When I heard Ellie wake up in the back of the car, I gave a huge sigh of relieve.

Also, Ellie is the most kick ass girl character, in a game, of all times. She is just so real.

thanks for a good read guys, lots of interesting ideas here.

the great thing about the ending is, even though we can all agree that Joel didn't do the right thing, we also have to admit that we would have done the same, in the end Joel is neither good nor evil, he is just real.

what a great game, I have never been so immersed in a fictional story in my entire life, there were so many nerve cracking moments and my eyes went misty more than once, it reaffirms my belief that video games can be the greatest story telling media of our time, and nobody does it better than Naughty Dog, can't wait to hear more from them.

Ellie made the game for me, she was one of the biggest nutters in any game ever. She saved me more times than i can remember with her random brick throwing or jumping on zombies, wish i had a share button to show you lot :L

My quick thoughts:
Joel technically is a ‘bad guy’, but what makes the story so interesting is how you see him come to the final decision to rescue Ellie. I don’t think many players would have done anything differently at the end if they had the choice.

One thing that’s clear is that Joel holds no stock in humanity (or the salvation of it). He distanced himself over the 20 years and trusts/cares about no one (except Ellie). He began this transformation when the solider kills his daughter in the intro. It’s really clever how the situation is reversed at the end. He’s helpless in the intro and ends up losing his daughter. At the end he is the one that does the killing and shows no mercy. He absolutely refuses to lose his daughter again.

Joel isn’t really an outlier. He is no different than most of the people that are just trying to survive. It’s kill (without hesitation) or be killed. He knows firsthand which is why he doesn’t hold hope in humanity, and why he tells Ellie that you have to find something to live for. Maybe Ellie started to accept that idea and why she said “okay” when he lied to her. At this point she wasn’t an innocent girl.

On a side note, I must say the amount of detail in this game is incredible. Everything about the world is bleak, and I love it. It’s the most atmospheric game I have played since the original Bioshock. I didn’t notice any copied and pasted rooms, each was unique and many of them told a story.

At the end of the game I kept expecting that Ellie or Joel or both would die but was very surprised. Instead of the cliché sad ending (where a main character dies) we got a very dark ending founded on hopelessness. I hope the DLC stays away from Ellie and Joel and focuses on new characters in a new location.

for those who are saying joel was selfish, the question is, would you let some people kill a person you love for "the greater good"? no, if its somebody you truly love you wouldnt, it isnt the humane thing to do, its the human thing to do. the ending was perfect IMO

Well he didn't even give her the choice. He made the choice for her and lied because she makes him happy.

That can be perceived as selfish.

well he did lie to her at the end to and carried the burdon, he does realize what her life means, its a cure. but they didnt even give her a choice, they were going to kill her even if she didnt want to. wouldnt you have done the same?

Well if she wanted to sacrifice her self in hopes of finding a cure that's wiping out humanity. I guess you let her make that choice.

My guess is she would have sacrificed herself. So Joel took it in his own hands to make sure that didn't happen.

It was selfish but that's what makes the ending so good.

Once again I would never ever bestow such a decision on my daughter.

If she says no -> That would make her feel like she's dooming humanity and she will feel responsible for the rest of her life.

She already kinda knows this, hence why she says at the end =>
"First it was Riley, then Tess, then Sam...".

Then Joel goes like
"Its not your fault and you always find something to believe in, now I know thats not what you want to hear right now.."

And shes like
"Swear to me".

So in a way, I feel her sub contious (spelling check?) is aware of the lie and wants to see if Joel is really going all the way. But another part of her chooses to believe Joel in order to cope with it all. Joel swears in order to remove any guilt she will ever feel. That is the sign of a true caring person. And that is exactly what I would do to someone I truly love even though it might and probably would eat away at me for years to come.

EDIT:
Fuck man this ending is really something <33333

Hello thread revival. Finished this game a couple of hours ago and decided to give my 2 sence at this particular post. First of this is in fact the best game I have ever played. Second, we really don't know whether Ellie was actually given a choice at the firefly compound before the surgery and she knew the whole time the Joel broke her out of there. Third side note, I would love to see DLC of Ish and his compound since its an amazing setting and their story seemed to keep going out of the compound with an unknown end.
