I thought snaking was eliminated in Mario Kart Wii and MK7.  It only existed in MK DS.

huh!? why would snaking be cheating? From what I saw of it hes just taking using the boost feature. If this is cheating then taking tanooki suit is SMB3 or cape from SMW and flying across the level is too

Snaking in MK DS made it unfun to play online if you didn't snake.  It pretty much ruined online multiplayer for the game.

It was. However, in some gameplay videos of MK8, the player appeared to be snaking, hence giving many the impression that Nintendo intentionally brought snaking back.

Oh that would be a dumb move.  You'd think they heard mainly complaints about snaking from the DS version.  I never got the hang of it myself cause it would hurt my hands trying to do it.  So I just gave up on it.  Plus it was stupid in my opinion.  I would still race online sometimes but mainly just raced against one or two other people that didn't snake.  Whoever snaked would just take off and win the race.

It's not "cheating," but it abuses a game mechanic, over simplifys the game, and forces everyone to do it if they want a chance at wining. It also wasn't intentional at all. Nintendo had no idea they would abuse their mechanics like this. They clearly intended for you to be able to fly in Mario.

A drift that upgrades to a boost and the idea that players would not incorporate that into their strategy never crossed their minds :/ I guess its just weird for me because in other racers that incorporate that mechanic like the riders and sega racer games its actually encouraged to built up boost unleash them at any moment you get. I did not play MK DS and dont remember this in Wii so I'll assume that it was annoying.

I guess you could compare snaking to shinesparking or whatnot, but playing against snakers online ain't fun, it ruins the experience.

in other words its an over exploited skill that isn't balanced.

Snaking is what killed MKDS for me, just like how Bikes+Funky Kong killed MK Wii.

Snaking is the tripping of Mario Kart. Good thing both of them are gone forever.

Look at that video, he basically is in a boost for the entire race.

Oh boy, that quality!

OT: I never got why so many people hated snaking. It's not like it was cheating or anything. Everyone could do it.
