Forums - Microsoft - Fixing XB1

A friend of mine and I were discussing this...The Xbox One would have been a better system if it was entirely digital and all the new games would cost $39.99. It would have a Blu-Ray/DVD drive and it would also run on windows while allowing you to play any PC game that matches up spec wise. It would be called Xbox Windows

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

They are just confusing themselves and their consumers. The potential is their and for people who are complaining about not sharing obviously didn't read the policy careful as the sharing it to 10 friends and those 10 friends have unlimited access to all your games is huge. The potential on how it can expand potential have unlimited game sharing is huge Don't see how you guys would miss that .

I don't have one friend who wants an XO, let alone 10.

Thats the thing,, gamers these are stuck back in the past rather then moving forward and allowing for technology and change because how we use to play back in the 80s , 90s and 00s won't happen forever . it iwll eventually will die out and move towards the digital era. If gamers are resistant to change might as well jsut go back to ps1 and stay ther lol because jsut playing games with one controller with shinier graphics won't cut it anymore plus piracy is a big thing. None gamers seem to realize that mnone of us actually own the game we buy. We own the license to play it and we are not allowed ot share or rent it , or loan but we do tha tanyway because you think its right because you pay for it. Sadly when you allow a person to finish a gameme withou payign for it ,,, you are hurting the developers because its equivalent f stealign a game from the shop  and reaping the benefits. Becauswe we are so used idea nad belief that onc ewe pay for it , its ours, we then get stuck into it so when a big coporations implement policies liek MS did ,, people go ape shit . Little did the yknow those thinsg have been in there sicne the ages ,, and teh only difference this time is that  the publishers is keeping a closer look because its not cheap to ,make game. yes i know gamers like yourself will come with plenty of excuses as why its not hurtign teh industry blah blah .

The most common excuse would make a better game. I would beleive that if it was entirely true ,, however theres one good example where th egame wa sreall good but it got pirated more times then it actually sold. That example is Witcher 2. Excellent RPG  , excellent game but it got pirated 4.5 million tomes. Thats alot of money  gone and never reachign the developers. The company  is small but they got lucky so it won' t get affected as much but imagine how much more they would have profited and be beneficial to the company  if they weren't pirated that much. Now if it was  smaller company and got pirated that much ,, they won't be as lucky  and could get risk of shutting down.  So yes teh excuse of make better games is bs because even good games like witcher 2 gets pirated. Therefore i am glad MS in a way is tryign to stop. Its high time that gamers buy their games instead of sharing. If you want to share ,, then xbox one has it with 10 family members which i splentiful and very generous.

I honestly believe MS haven't done anything wrong....yet. Sure, we're vocal, we don't like what they're doing, but they needn't change anything until the system launches and it does poorly in sales. At that point the consumer has voted and it's time to fix stuff. And I believe they're aware of that and will stick to their guns until the noose tightens.

As Jack Trenton said, a company can't function by merely reacting to its competitors. They have a plan, I'm sure it was discussed ad nausea somewhere and it won't be changed until things are actually bad. Pre-orders don't mean crap right now since the system is still months away and it has yet to performs in the real world.

Plus, MS giving in to the internet demands I think would hurt their credibility with investors...and some consumers alike. When a company doesn't trust its own product, it's hard for anyone to invest in it when even the creator thinks it will fail.

Of course, I may be wrong, I don't have much idea about how these things actually work, but I believe it's a fair assumption.

they could give me an an xbone for free and i still would not be interested in that thing because
a) i'm not playing with something that requires a plugged in camera and a frequent online check and
b) microsoft under their current lead never was nor will it ever be interested in creating innovative gaming experiences.

Look in regards to backwards compatibility for xbox one : http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-17-you-can-plug-an-xbox-360-into-the-xbox-one-says-major-nelson

Step 1. Admit when you’re wrong and apologize

This is no joke. They have pissed off a lot of their loyal customers, retail, and industry professionals (journos, indi devs, etc) faster than I have ever seen in my time as a gamer (+/-30 years). As a start they need to admit there is a problem by directly acknowledging this to their fans with true meaningful dialog.  And no pre-caned pr bullshit. They in some way or other need to directly apologize for not listening to their fans, and show a willingness to change by listening to what people are unhappy about.

Step 2. Attempt to Fix what’s wrong

For starters, a potential revision to the 24 hour log in requirement is a must. Something as simple as a longer time between log ins and/or a program for military personal would go a long way to fixing the perceived problem.

But why not go further. If the log in is designed to prevent unlimited game sharing, via installs of the same game across multiple systems, there are other solutions that offer similar protection for the developer, only require occasional log ins, and allow for loaning and private sales.

For example; they could require the disc to be in the system for first time use and require online registration with a kinect based facial recognition drm added in the mix.

If you want to loan a game to a friend simply log on to your account, select the game, select loan, indicate the friend you are loaning to and how long (say no longer than 30 days max). Your friend takes the game home and registers the game as borrowed and wala.

If you want to transfer ownership by private sale or gift it would work the same way. You log on and select deactivate. Then the game disc would have to be inserted in the new system, and the game could be reactivated to the new account.

And if they want to prevent the negative effects of used game sales the real solution is to prevent sales in the first 2 months at retail. To do this they could set up their system to automatically say, sorry this game has been/is registered to another system and is not eligible for transfer until (insert date).

There are so many solutions; many I’m sure better though out and probably much more eloquent than mine. Point is; Microsoft need to immediately begin exploring these options with its fans, publishers, and retail partners and they need to do it now, before launch.

I'd say there's 2 big flaws with these steps.

First: Admitting they're wrong and apologizing. Everyone had already decide to hate Microsoft BEFORE they gave any details of their console. People had decided to be unhappy based on rumors. The facts were nowhere near as harsh as the speculation, but people decided to maintain their full level of anger.

Second: Attempt to fix what's wrong

Online checkins are critical for the new system, and yes, having them hourly for loaned games. The fact is, the console sharing they announced is amazing and exciting. For many, and I dare so most gamers with friends (and even half decent internet), it will be better than ever. People are resistant to change, and haven't actually read what the new system involves, or they'd complain less. Your suggestions are for LIMITING the sharing options a great deal, in order to eliminate the check in. Or requiring the disc to be in the drive once? As it stands, I can loan games to friends all around the country, no disc, no time limits, as long as they have the internet. and destroying that capability to eliminate check ins is somehow a bonus?

They must add some more TV channels! O-)

They won't improve their product.

"People are not bashing us cause they don't like our product, it's because we are misunderstood"
^That, is the tought of microsoft whenever they fail.

Surface, Windows phone, windows 8, windows vista, ...

Either they are ahead of their time everytime, either they just should go back making software

No 24-hour online check-ins
Allow used games
No region lock
Step up XBL Gold to PlayStation Plus offers
Allow HDD swapping
Kinect model for 399
Kinect-less model for 299
Slim it down already because it's too fat
Power unit inside the console, I don't like bricks
No AA batteries for controllers, make it recharge like PS3/PS4 controllers via USB, ffs it's 2013

Hell there's a lot to fix. Probably something else I forgot, too.

The first and second on your list are the only ones that are really important. People can live with the rest.

Good read, but about the simply enforcing the license excuse:
Nowhere in the eula it says that your are prohibited to sell your game.

For example from the mass effect eula:
http://eacom.s3.amazonaws.com/EULA_Mass+Effect+3_en_10.5.11+FINAL.pdf

Any commercial use is prohibited. You are expressly prohibited from sub-licensing, renting, leasing or otherwise distributing the Software or rights to use the Software. The term of your License shall commence on the date that you install or otherwise use the Software, and shall end on the earlier of the date that you dispose of or transfer the Software

You are not allowed to alter or copy or decompile and re-use any of it's components, i.e. the intellectual property is not yours. The disc copy is. Selling your disc / license is not prohibited.

However the 10 share plan, or two people playing at the same time goes directly against the eula:

Unless expressly authorized by EA, you are prohibited from making a copy of the Software available on a network where it could be used by multiple users. You are prohibited from making the Software available over a network where it could be downloaded by multiple users.

So please stop with second hand sales have always been prohibited by the license agreement, and MS is simply enforcing the Eula now (according to that link). I don't see it.
