Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One has “infinite” cloud grunt, power of ten Xbox 360's – Microsoft

VG247

Xbox One engineering manager Jeff Henshaw has said the processing power of the new console is literally limitless.

Speaking at a console demonstration, as reported by GamesIndustry, Henshaw said the Xbox One has “the computational power of more than 10 Xbox 360 consoles” but that “the cloud brings infinite additional processing power”.

“Microsoft has hundreds of thousands of servers and dozens of data centers geographically distributed all around the planet, and Xbox One has the ability to instantly tap in to that limitless computational horsepower,” he said.

Because of its ability to draw on “virtualized cloud computing resources”, the Xbox One can process tasks “without even breaking a sweat” that would cause any other device to “melt a hole in the ground”.

“Game developers can now create persistent worlds that encompass tens or hundreds of thousands of players without taxing any individual console, and those worlds that they built can be lusher and more vibrant than ever before because the cloud persists and is always there, always computing,” Henshaw said.

“Those worlds can live on in between game sessions. If one player drops out, that world will continue on and can experience the effects of time, like wear from weather damage, so that when a player comes back into the universe it’s actually a slightly evolved place in the same way that our real world evolves a little bit from the time we go to sleep to the time we wake up. Game developers have given us incredibly positive feedback on the crazy different ways that they can use this incredible new cloud power resource.”

The Xbox One will launch in November in 21 territories for $499.

That's just PR jargon. The could is the cloud. Sony has the cloud too, whatever one can do, they other can as well.

the funny thing is that they are decreasing the number of 360 the cloud can bring each time they talk hahaha! XD

So it's the same empty BS as it was when they initially mentioned it, but Xbox One x 40 has been upgraded to Xbox One x Infinity. Awesome. I eagerly anticipate the digital foundry tech-breakdowns on both 1st and 3rd party software, so these outrageous claims can be tested, and ultimately dismissed as rubbish.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

Microsoft has spent billions of dollars for research and development of cloud based technologies in recent years. So if anyone can do it correctly, it may be Microsoft.
But I will not believe that it can have a great impact on the gaming industry until I see it.
And that will certainly not be anytime soon.

they said the same thing about the ps3 how did that turn out?

Like dedicated servers? :D Boy we sure are going full circles aren't we? lol

but does it have Blast Processing?!!!! Cloud powered gaming only can be used if you are truly online 100% of the time, for any offline campaign based games they literally have to work those games 100% around the power of what's in the box, otherwise offline you are left with a game which doesn't work, at all.

Offline? Xbox One? Not for long. Literally.

No dev working on it exclusively is gonna count on "offline" with it. And the multiplay makers have the other two consoles to factor in - neither needing online.

it's bad enough if you are playing a game like WoW when someones net goes down to see a player running on the spot but to thought that if you dc from XBL and all the cars around you are suddenly going to crash into a wall in your single player race is awful. Or better still what happens to playing Forza when XBL servers are down for a few hours? no single player AI? really?
