Forums - Gaming - 7th to 8th gen is the smallest jump in graphics I have seen. Yep I will be the bad guy and say it.

Comparing screens is unfair for 8th gen consoles really, the difference gets bigger when those games are in motion, and does them justice. Overall maybe yeah, the leap is the least noticeable, but there are many other areas that games got a quantum leap: vastly bigger worlds being the most apparent (over half of the games shown on E3 were bigger then their 7th gen iterations)
I also think we're really spoiled by how long this generation was. PC's have gone so far out of reach, and everyone has access to youtube, so I've already seen games that will at least on par with the best that this generation will show us in terms of pure fidelity, this wasn't the case in previous gens.
Also keep in mind how horrible launch games for X360 looked like Gun for example, people were calling it Xbox 1,5 then we got GeoW 3 and Halo 4 and nobody thinks that it wasn't a huge leap anymore. Same with PS3 - compare RFoM to Killzone 3 or Uncharted 3. So lets give new platforms time to mature and devs to stop parring games back for PS360.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

A good comparison would be RE4 and RE5. The lighting in RE5 was improved, the charatcer model were improved, the locations looked a bit better, but RE4 still held up compared to RE5.

Smallest gfx jump thread again? Oh boy...

It will probably be even lower next generation as well. Technology was rapidly advancing before and it's not doing so much right now due to lack of significant breakthroughs. I expect better tech within the games themselves though like better AI, mechanics, gimmicks, fps, textures... etc etc

U just need to be patient. 360 at launch didnt look that mich better than Xbox, especially on a standard def tv. U shouldnt compare these 1st year cross gen titles to games like Halo 4 or Last of Us that took 7 years to show off the true potential of PS360, instead compare them to the likes of Resistance or Perfect Dark Zero.

Also its not just about graphics, these games will have bigger worlds, better AI, more characters on screen, better draw distances, better lighting, 1080 at 60fps among other things

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

We're getting to the point where there are still differences, but those are becoming more or less on fine tuning little things not big things.

wii to wiiu will and does show a big difference already. But just look at the two DKC games.

Returns was a big push on Wii hardware where Tropical Freeze is less so on WiiU, yet look at the character models and individual fur on the Kongs. That detail is what I'm referring to. Its the little things in visual and the bigger things in the back-end regarding scale, performance, AI, etc.

Here you go:

We're hitting the point where a massive increase in power will result in minor changes graphically. Same with cars, I takes a massive amount of extra power to go just a tiny bit faster when you hit a certain speed.

That said, this is the beginning of the gen, and as such these games likely won't show off the power of the system completely.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I agree, there was nothing during E3 that gave the "WOW" factor in terms of graphics. Maybe because I'm PC gamer idk.
