Forums - Nintendo - Can Wii U appeal to more "core" gamers?

Nintendo has terrible marketing!!!! Some TV adverts talking up mature games and their free online aspect and E-Shop would be a step in the right direction..... And GTA V MUST happen if they are to portray themselves as mature...

Apparently mature to people nowadays is screaming in a headset on Call of Duty calling other people faggots. If that's core gaming, then I want no part of it.

The term "core" is usually reserved for the COD and Halo crowd, which is dead wrong. IMO, the term "core" means us. It means gamers who can tell you what Ikaruga and Sin and Punishment are. Core gamers are the ones who know the differences between the international release of FFX and the US one. Core gamers know the industry inside and out. From the beginning to the present time etc. They're NOT "dude bros", as people call them these days. Those types of gamers are like casuals, only they play shooters/sports instead. Completely uninformed in MOST cases, and about as far from "core" as you can get.

So answer the question? The "core" gamer is already on board with Nintendo and always will be. Dude bros? Not so much.

I think it already does. It depends entirely on what you mean by "Core" gamers. Do you mean someone who plays a lot of games and has been gaming for a LONG ass time, like myself? Or do you mean someone who is basically one of those "HARDCORE" gamers, who only considers "Realistic and mature" games with plenty of shooting and/or violence, blood, erotic material, etc., to be "real games"? The second category are nothing but immature poser fanboys who need to grow up, and seek mental help.

The first category? They, like me, buy what they want, and play games that they like, because they're good/fun. So yes. I think the Wii U can/does absolutely appeal to "core" gamers. But by asking that, do you mean will it EVER appeal to the shooter-monkeys and "brocore" gaming crowd? No, if nothing else because they wouldn't be caught dead owning a Nintendo system. Their friends might make fun of them.

Is it time to post X gifs? Yes it is.

I believe it can, but they need to advertise more of these games. I think they put a decent sized marketing budget to Fire Emblem and that did pretty durn well (though physical stock is still sold out everywhere) they need to show that Nintendo consoles aren't just all about Mario.

If by core you mean those who are into the new style of Final Fantasy XV, or those who are into Killzone 4, no, and they don't need to better off without that market.

If by core you mean those who are interested in X and were back in the day interested in Final Fantasy VII in the same generation as Xenogears, then yes they may get that market and should imho, they are a healthy consumerbase.

Eh, I love Xenogears and FFVII and still possess those games in working condition to this day yet I like the look of FFXV. These things don't have to be mutually exclusive. Some of you ninty fans just seem unable to get over the past. X does look great IMO but will have to see more to judge.

BTW, I cant wait to pick up KZ4 as well.

ZombiU actually sold very well... it´s attach rate is superior to many, many Ps3 and Xbo360 games. I´m not sure if it sold well enough to give Ubisoft the profit it expected.

Good luck convincing the groups that see a Nintendo product kiddy, ol'chap...
