Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Wii U Fall Line-Up: will it be enough?

Will the fall line-up get Wii U's momentum going again?

It's not as good as I th... 92 41.26%

It's good enough, so yes. 131 58.74%

Total:223

i think the lineup will push the console sales but not by much. i also dont think the lineup is enough to fend off being crushed from the PS4 and X1

I'm positive there are certain games that Nintendo have not shared to the public that will be releasing this holiday season. Nintendo is a very secretive company. I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo announced other first party titles in the next few months via a direct.

Bit of whistful thinking there. Even if they could pull another game out of their back pocket to get gamers fired up, what could it possibly be?

As far as things go, those third party titles  will do well if they got sales up to double what they are now...which is to say they won't help much at all. Regarding First Party, I expect Mario, Donkey Kong, and Wii Fit (provided it launches in 2013) to do well, Windwaker to do okay, and the rest to do slightly below Windwaker (also, I thought Yarn Yoshi was in there, but I don't remember where". The first two weeks after they come out, I expect sales to pop above 100k, 300k for the big 3 titles. When all's said and done...I expect sales around 3,000,000 consoles from August to 2014.

Yoshi and shin megami tensei vs fire emblem are confirmed games that didn't apear today. there might be another 1 or 2 as well.

That's hardly "not shared with the public" territory. Granted, few details, but we know they exist, and we know (or at least knew, if it has since changed) that Yarn Yoshi comes out this fall.

Wishful thinking?

No.

Many games have been announced through their investors meetings report. Furthermore, the 3DS XL was announced via a Nintendo Direct following E3.

Nonetheless, Nintendo is in a difficult position and I don't see them ''winning'' the holiday season without either a price cut or a 349.99$ bundle with 3D Mario included. Furthermore, in my opinion, Nintendo needs 1 more AAA game in their arsenal for their holiday line-up: Donkey Kong  + Mario 3D will not cut it. Pokemon Stadium Wii U to tie in would be a great addition. Hopefully Nintendo realises this.

At the moment yes, Mario Kart Release in the Spring. Now all there's left is that Summer Update.

That they could announce a game is a given, of course. I only ask what game it could be. And indeed, what game could they release that would not compete with their other offerings? You mention Pokemon Stadium, and while that would be a neat idea, it's a franchise that hasn't seen the light of day for over 10 years. They wouldn't release a game such as that without laying the groundwork, and they wouldn't be able to do that at an investor's meeting.

They released Pokemon Battle Revolution Wii in 2006 which is a successor to Pokemon Stadium :)

It'll be "okay". 2014 will make or break Wii U.

Which sold only half as well as Stadium 2, which sold only half as well as Stadium. Despite the popularity of the franchise, the concept of a console tie-in has grown increasingly less popular. And again, I never said they couldn't release the game, but without the appropriate groundwork, it'd probably see sales well south of Battle Revolution.

It's a decent lineup. Wind Waker and Donkey Kong will sell a couple million lifetime, Wii Party U can break 5 million, Wii Fit U and 3D World will be big sellers, older games like Nintendo Land and NSMBU will continue to sell, and the 3rd party lineup is better than the Wii's was in 2007.

I think Nintendo needs one more big game, from itself or 3rd parties, to really break ahead this holiday. It could be something as simple as getting GTA5. That game, for example, could lead to the Wii U getting more PS360 ports than previously, which could lead to a steady supply of games from some companies at least into 2015.

Alternatively, I'm hoping that Nintendo has some good stuff planned for 2014. Smash Bros and Mario Kart was enough in 2008, but the Wii U is in worse condition than the Wii. If Retro is also working on another game like I suspect, or we get Zelda by Holiday 2014, that could suffice.

It's enough for me anyway. Wii U finally seems to have enough games for me to want to buy the console.. New Super Luigi U, Smash, Mario Kart 8, X, Pikmin, Wonderful 101, Watch Dogs, Monster Hunter, and now Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country.

Now we just need a price drop..
