Forums - Nintendo - Disgusted At The Fact That "Industry Professionals" Can't Wait To See Nintendo's "Demise"

No, they don't. They hate Nintendo's inability to embrace change, not Nintendo themselves or their games.

By "They hate Nintendo's inability to embrace change", I assume you mean they hate that Nintendo does their own thing instead of doing what is expected of them?

Well good, then. Hope they keep doing that.

All I know is that personally, with Nintendo's incredible 1st part games, they could easily dominate the market if they got all the big 3rd party support. They don't though and they seem to not care.

I guess its a dream on most peoples part.

Third parties have made it clear time and time again that competition with Nintendo's IPs is one of the reasons they don't want to support them.

As such, I made peace with the fact that Nintendo consoles will never have the kind of support MS and Sony have, long ago.

I think its up to Nintendo to create an environment wher games like the Battlefields and Call of Duties can sell well. Nintendo has failed to do that and they seem to not care. That's how I see the situation. Publisher like money and they don't make much on Nintendo platforms. I think its as simple as that.

It is the meme of the day, people have been banging that drum for a few years, this too shall pass.

The video game industry is infected with people who don't really care about gaming, that is the sad truth. Anyone who is truly a videogame fan would never wish for Nintendo to leave the hardware business. There is a difference between prefering something different, and actively wanting the last true video game company to go under.

My personal theory is that a lot of this kind of thinking is driven by adolesent angst, meaning that the video game industry still attracts an unproportionally large audience of immature man-children. You often hear talk about the need for "mature" games and games that apeal to "adults". Yet the people going on about Nintendo leaving the hardware business are driven by the most childish of motivations: Insecurity and jelousy. Not the marks of a mature mind.

Insecurity as manifested in the constant need to reaffirm that your choice of video game console is "superior". You can see this in people constantly trying to highlight the excellence of 'their' console, or even lower: in constantly putting down a competitor to make them seem inferior. Jelousy in the form of not being able to accept that something you don't personally enjoy is successful, such as making fun of Nintendo for selling 20 million copies or whatever of Nintendogs, or not accepting that Nintendo's take on racing in Mario Kart is more popular than for example Forza. You'll see people with a straight face discount some games because they are 'too kiddie', 'not next gen', 'not a deep experience' and all sorts of other constructs to explain away that their favourite product is being outperformed by a competitor that they find threatening.

The game industry is filled to the brim with people like these, and they are more than content join in the circle jerk without ever stopping to contemplate their motivations or how petty their thinking seems if you look at it from outside their echo-chamber.

One of the most amusing things to me in regards to videogames is to go on a fieldtrip with 2nd graders. They will often discuss videogames , and when they do what do they talk about? Call of Duty, Halo, God of War and Grand Theft Auto, etc. The "mature" hardcore share their gaming tastes with 8 year old boys, who think the blood and gore of God of War is extremely awesome.

Great post! Not much to add.

This is what you get for watching Spike TV

Factually accurate. It's somewhat like being mad at Fox News, really.

Nobody wants Nintendo to die, we just want the old Nintendo back. We want the evil franchise milking, casual focused part of Nintendo to go away, and let them be bold once again and focused once again.

Sorry they're not living up to your romanticized and largely fictionalized ideal?

I wish Nintendo would go third party just for the lulz for only a year so noone would buy any other game than Nintendo games.

Should teach those idiots a lesson muahahaha

Nintendo have their hands filled pumping out their first party games.

They need to keep making the kind of games they make and not make what will ultimately be futile attempts at fighting Sony and MS in the cinematic games arena. That's not who they are.

Some types of games sell better on MS and Sony's console than on Nintendo's and vice versa.

Nintendo's consoles will always be primarily about their first party. That's just the way it is.

I don't think of it as "they want Nintendo to fail". I think it's more like they want Nintendo games on consoles they like more. I don't see it as them personally attacking Nintendo.

If anything, I think it shows they actually care about nintendo unlike what most ninty fans would say

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

This is the reason why I stopped going to GT since the start of 7 gen... And since then I visited the site to see the Nintendo Hour from them, it hasn't change. At first it did not bother me... But as time went on, it just felt even more apparent especially when the tables had turn for the worst for Sony/M$.

Jeff made me hate him the most with face times with publishers/developers. When it came to Nintendo side, he really pressed them (especially with Reggie) hard/no bullocks questions.

Edit: Sorry for the title edit. I was trying to find something that would fit, my original title was way too long!

I just got done watching Spike's Live Stream show; they were talking about Nintendo's E3 Direct Press Conference. It was going well, understandbly these guys weren't all surprised at what Nintendo showed. But then Geoff (or whatever) brought up a point that struck a long conversation with their guests.

It was now no longer a discussion about Nintendo's Conference, it was a discussion about "I can't wait for Nintendo to go onto mobile!!!1!!" or, "Won't it be awesome when Iwata walks onto Sony's stage and says "Here is the next Zelda!", that'll trend on Twitter!" And they were salivating at these thoughts, pretty much. How in the world could these "Industry Pros" get so worked up for this? They want a company (a big company) to fail and go Third Party. Seriously, it's disgusting to see that.

Did anyone else see this Stream? Or does anyone else differ/share my opinions? I'm interested.

I didn't watch the conference,  but based on your description, this doesn't sound like "wanting the demise of Nintendo".  It sounds like they want to see Nintendo IP on other platforms.

I'd love to see Nintendo become a third party publisher.  They've always had great titles.  On the other hand, they haven't produced a console that I really wanted to have since the N64 (I bought and own a Wii, but that's a story for another day..).  Nintendo probably has the best creative minds in the industry when it comes to the actual games, but is the worst console manufacturer (excluding handhelds).

Of the big three console manufacturers, it makes the most sense for Nintendo to go third party.  They have the most famous names in gaming.  Names that will sell on any platform.

Nintendo would make far more money selling their titles on all other platforms - Playstations, XBox's, iPads, and so on.  This was their plan once upon a time with Sony, but things broke down when squabbles over revenue sharing and executive egos on both sides got in the way.  It's now 20 years later than they planned to do it, but I still think it's the right business move for them.

Their plan never was to go 3rd party. Why on earth would Nintendo give up on a successful business model and a virtual stranglehold on the entire market to go 3rd party?

Nintendo's plan was to keep up with technology and develop an "all in one entertainment centre" with Sony. Nintendo pulled out because the contract stated that: 1. Sony would be in control of the licensing fees for the CD based system, including charging Nintendo, and 2. Refusal to incorporate the CIC microcontroller onto a disc caddy, which would have effectively opened the floodgates for piracy. So for somebody with that much control in the marketplace, why would they willingly give that up?
