Activision and EA never made a home console that is designed to maximize their IPs through gameplay innovations.

Why they should? They don't care about that, and a PlayStation is pretty much an Activision and EA console, but Sony takes the hit of selling the hardware at loss.

That's an...ambitious...prediction. For that to happen the PS4 would have to outsell the PS3 and the Wii U would have to gain absolutely no momentum (both of which are unlikely).

And no, I don't think that's what most of these people are thinking. I think there is a genuine glee in the immature, nerdy hearts of many of these gamers who "grew up" with Xbox or Playstation, in the thought of the "old guard" Nintendo finally "going down". Many of these same idiots have been hoping for this for years. Yes, for some of them it's because they want to be able to play Nintendo games on their console of choice. But for others, it's simply wanting to dance on Nintendo's grave, because they're fucking nerds with nothing better to do.

Also, yes, it absolutely would be a massive failure for THE most influencial developer and biggest console maker in gaming history, to fall by the wayside so much that they have to make games for OTHER people's consoles. While I was a Nintendo gamer, it was a very dark and sad day when Sega announced they were going 3rd party. Is it cool that I can play Sega franchises on a Nintendo console now? Sure. But is it worth the cost of Sega losing their dignity and having a REAL game developer/console maker on the market other than Nintendo? No. Not at all. Would you say that Sega is better off as a 3rd party dev? I wouldn't. I'd say that all their properties have gone sharply downhill since they did so. Where is shit like Ecco the Dolphin, or Shinobi, or Golden Axe, Out Run, or Streets of Rage, or Vectorman, or Nights, or Panzer Dragoon, Clockwork Night, Bug, you name it? Where is creative shit like Fighters Megamix and Shenmue and Chakan the Forever Man, or Comix Zone, or Ristar? Most of what Sega does now are (largely poor) Sonic games. They've had varying success outside of that.

The same thing would happen to Nintendo if they went third party. All people would get would be Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, and Zelda. MAYBE Smash Bros. No more Kirby, no more Fire Emlem, or Paper Mario, or F-Zero, or Wave Race, or Pikmin, etc. etc. etc.

To be honest, even though they were incompetant as hell on the business side, I even miss Atari as a console maker. The days when the three big console makers were Atari, Nintendo and Sega....those were good times. Nintendo is all that is left. Everything else is huge corporations that just happen to have video game divisions. Nintendo is the ONLY purely game creator company left. Do I want to see that end? Fuck no. So sorry, the fanboy fantasies and delusions of Nintendo "pulling a Sega" are going to remain just that. Nintendo will survive, and thrive. They always have.

REALLY now. I was one of the few people In my circle to own a SNES; most people I knew had Master Systems and Mega Drives. But despite being a SNES owner, I also had a Game Gear. I would often swap a system with all my games with friends for a week, just so that each of us could experience the things we missed, on the cheap. I got to play a plethora of GameBoy, Mega Drive, Amiga and Commodore 64 titles that I would otherwise not have even KNOWN about, and I hope that my friends also enjoyed what the SNES, Game Gear, Atari ST and BBC Micro had to offer (because I also had those latter two obscure things).

I think that the people whom you mention in your example are the vocal minority, which unfortunately highlights an aspect of human nature that endures to this day.

It's nothing new, in fact I'd probably say these people just think that if they keep saying something over and over again, it will eventually come true.

Why do people hate Nintendo so much? What did they do?
