So its the same as the PS3.
It's a bit odd because at the conference, they gave the "impression" that PS4 owners wouldn't have to deal with DRM at all. Now they're saying its up to the publishers. It might "appear" the same as currently on PS3, but it's really not because publishers will no doubt start implementing DRM more than ever. If big time publishers like EA, Activision and Ubisoft start making this the norm, then last night's cries of " Sony killed Microsoft" etc... Would end up being nothing more than an embarrassing premature ejaculation.

However to say "Sony: Online DRM up to publishers" alleviates those wild assumptions people tend to get when they over react. As you can see from this very thread people are like sheep and start to freak out at the very slightest thing when it comes to breaking their harmony. |
Basically. If I understand correctly, publishers won't be able to lock single-player content to an account the way it is on the Xbox One. They won't be able to restrict the resale of their game, only the online services available at-purchase.
Since I play pretty much exclusively 1-p games, this is a big win.
I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

That's a good suggestion. Should help clear things up, so done.
That's very disappointing. They made it sound like all used games will be allowed at the E3 conference so things won't be so perfect for the PS4 unfortunately. I'm actually quite angry with that cause its almost as if they lied to us.

What? It is like PS3... no DRM for offline gameplay but the publishers can do that for the online.
Like everybody expected from Sony and MS.

Ohhh right. Thought they were saying that third party's will be allowed to block used games. Phew. that's a relief :) .

The 24 hour check in is not DRM publishers control. I am talking about used games working or not working, online activations required or not required, loaning out games supported or not supported.. these are things publishers control on both systems. If they support them on one, they will support them on both. If they don't enforce them on one, why would they choose to enforce it on the other? The DRM they can control on Xbone, they control on PS4. The real DRM that we need to worry about. We'll know soon enough just how DRM hungry publishers actually are. |
No they not, all those things you described are done for free through microsofts system publisher just has to tick some boxes, for publishers to do any of those things on PS4 it would be of great cost to themselves to implement.
