Forums - Nintendo - (Have some crow!) Nintendo showed incredible, hardcore, mature games and yet you complain about 3D Mario?

The new 3D Mario was probably the most disappointing game from the stuff they showed.

Galaxy was genre defining for 3D platformers. Great concept, great visuals and great gameplay. 3D World just looks extremely uninspired. Basically like the NSMB series just with one more dimension and these games were already getting milked pretty hard lately.
Until now I was all for splitting the Mario platformer series into 3D and 2D, but that might not be necessary in the future anymore.

Prediction: Worst rated 3D Mario on Metacritic.

Fixed.

3D Land was great for a handheld and was really fun. Definitely worth the praise.

Yeah I was being conservative. I saw that 3D Land got a 90. I'm sure it will be below Sunshine's 92 and I'm confident that it will be between 85 and 89. Though in case it's going to get a 90, I still wanted to be right.

Super Mario 3D Land sits at 90, so for two points less, you can aim for "worst-rated 3D Mario game ever".

Edit: Ninja'd. Third time today.

The camera isn't locked. Well, at least not completely. Definitely less locked than 3D Land.

Nintendo could always do more, but if you constantly expect them to do more, you will be constantly disappointed. X and Bayonetta 2 already consitute more effort than what they've done for most of the Wii's life span. I was right to wait until 2010 to buy a Wii, for sure.

Retro Studios is doing what they want to do, according to what their president is saying. That, to me, is a very encouraging thing.

COnsideirng they have like NO 3rd party support I do expect more ffrom them. They need to pull their head out of fantasy land and realise most 3rd party will never develope on their platform.

The moment they realise that is the moment they can expand their own studios and create new ones to fill this void.

This. I think a lot of people are still in denial thinking that third parties are supporting this system. They're not. I would not be surprised if literally no third party games are released next year.

The industry has deserted it and what worries me is Nintendo don't seem the slightest bit fussed. They're just content with releasing slightly different versions of wii games, blindly assuming the mass market will return. Heads up, they're not.

I don't want to come accross as a hater because I love Nintendo, but the company is headed in a very depressing direction. Rather than spending money and trying to release a top quality product with a wide arrange of games available, they're just trying to minimise expenditure and only releasing the bare minimum of worn out franchises with minimum risk.

the third party MULTIPLATFORMS, wich is different than third party support, can get better but is already far superior than wii. they're not getting GTA5 or mgs5 (at least not yet) but they're getting AAA titles for the year: Batman, AC4, Watch dogs, Call of retrocess. and the likes of W 101, Bayonetta 2 and Sonic are third party if you haven't noticed. I'm still expecting a few more announcements from third's in the near future.
