Forums - Nintendo - Are you glad or disappointed Retro´s Wii U game is another DKC?

disappointed. Dkcr was a good game, but it's still a 2d platformer. No matter how good the game is there is going to be a level of 1dimesion-ness to it. Retro is capable of so much more. That being said, it's going to be a good game. I do hope they're working on something else though. But i guess they did 3 metroids, so maybe 3 dks?

You can say that about any genre. Platformers are just running and jumping, FPS games are just shooting, Metroid is just exploring, etc.

now you're just being biasedly negative. did you notice your complaints are basically that there were no new ip? because new ip's are so much common and at least nintendo has w 101 and bayonetta that's new for their system

Yes I am biased against Nintendo. I don't even want to argue. If this is enough for you, fine. But compared to the other showings,

Sunset Overdrive

Quantum Break

Titanfall

Destiny

The Division

and so on,

Nintendo comes out with "Mario, but he has a new costume!" Are you fucking kidding me? That's just not enough for me anymore. Luckily I have a capable PC and most of the games release on PC so I'm good for now, but Nintendo is in for a beating right now. They even get some third party games this year and the schedule is still barren. This time next year, there will be no more third party games and with what they showed, there is no twist to apply that makes them look good in the end.

Nintendo NEEDS to drop the price considerably to position the Wii U as THE cheap second companion console to get and they also NEED to have an absolutely stellar christmas or else they will be fucked big time.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Hugely disappointed. It was probably only done due to sales as DK sells over 5m while metroid 1m.

I'm happy i love Donkey Kong Country ever since the first games on the SNES, it's good they brought them back with Wii, 3DS and now Wii U

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Looks like an up port from Wii, maybe it was a Wii Sequel they decided to save.

Love the Vikings idea though, it's much more unique than Magic Masks.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

It could have been anything else. ANYTHING. I've never been more disappointed in Nintendo than I am right now, and that's what I said last year, and that's what I said the year before that.

i disagree.  Think you might be a little defensive on the subject.  3d modeling was a huge leap in game development and it would be strange to ignore that.  in some ways 2d games end up being a step backward in my opinion.  Don't get me wrong, alot of times they're fun as hell and can be great games.  Retro's level design chops are phenominal.  But, a 2d game is only going to be so deep.  If i wanna play one of my older games to kill some time and have some fun i play donkey kong country returns.  If i wanna go on a freaking adventure with intense immersive situations i play metroid prime.  Both great games, but i think it's hard to deny that metroid is the deeper (and longer) game.

I am happy. Any game from Retro gets me excited. Kind of surprised that people were overjoyed when they announced they were doing it on the Wii but now hate Retro that they are doing a sequel on the Wii U.

First time around it was genuinely exciting and shocking for Retro to do this, second time around we've had years (literally) of rumours about new ip's, and letting them do what they want, etc. We keep telling ourselves that Retro is the new Rare, and Retro will do what Nintendon't, but its a business.

Retro are actually the new Rare, under the control and will power of a massive force (MS), where they do what they're told and they don't have a choice.

I'm annoyed.

I wanted a WiiU hardware showcasing game that was rumored. Not another DK game. It looks and will likely be good, but not what I wanted to see.

yes, what in the world is up with 2.5NSMB (3d Mario) and then the DK!  Who is making the decisions there!
