Seriously doubt the PS3 will overtake the Wii. PS3 sales will fall off come the PS4 launch.

Well they may stop sooner, but the general trend is that once a new system is launched, the focus goes to that system, and the old system starts to lose shelf space at the shops. That's just merchandising 101.

Give the facts:

PS1 sold 25 million after PS2 launched.

PS2 sold +40 million after PS3 launched.

Gaming has gotten bigger with every single generation.

PS3 can easily pull the +25 million sales needed to overtake the Wii, especially since it is still at ~$299 in the US and even higher in other countries for the 160 GB model.
