Most moms and CoD/Madden players have no idea what "DRM" is and they probably don't care about the 24-hour check-in policy. However, what they MIGHT care about, and Sony would be smart to push this home, is that lending, trading, and renting with the PS4 is easy and simple. Buying and selling used games is easy and simple. That difference, if communicated to the masses, could be key. I also want to comment on the thought that Sony won't have as many high-quality games as the XO. I honestly don't believe that will be the case, as there are still several World Wide Studios development teams who have yet to reveal their projects. I think this goes in-line with Sony wanting to no longer reveal new games too soon. This also leads me to believe that Sony's game releases will see a nice curve, so that they won't have a barren second year. I'm more than a little confident that they have some quality stuff for the future. I don't think they felt the need to pull everything out the way Microsoft did, for obvious reasons. |
Well, not quite, some soccer moms will ask at the shop about what it is better. The shopkeeper will tell wild tales of being connected all the time and used game fees, and the mom will get scared.
Microsoft now has to grease the shopkeepers hands, so they keep those PS4 hidden. Windows 8 better sell very well, this WILL NOT be cheap...

"Young and naive" is my favorite quote from Metroid: Other M, because it can be used often and easily. Nintendo has no DRM, no online activation/check, no camera shenanigans and no used games fees, so Sony still doesn't impress me. By the way, you won't get Drive Club for free, you have to subscribe to PS+ and you only get a Plus Edition which is most likely not the full game. |
Love Nintendo, Rol. I got a 3ds, and, baby, they are NOT cheap in Brazil. However, since I am a PSN PLUS member for more than a year, Driveclub will be free for me =D
Does anyone have any idea how much of a loss sony is taking by selling PS4 at $399?

| starcraft said: I dont see how that helps anyone...look how quickly Sony starts sneaking new restrictions in if they get a monopoly on the high end. Remember, just a few months ago you would 'never have to pay for online.' |
Great point. Competition is always good. Plus I'm sure MS is already determining what to change.

I guess little to nothing.

Well most estimates put the APU and RAM to cost about $200 alone. Then once you add in the rest of the materials, packaging, etc.. you're likely around $400 to $450.
Which is why I've always thought they'd do $450 to just about break even or little profit. However, I also always thought the camera would be packed in and with this $399 bundle it is not.
So I'd bet Sony is pretty close to breaking even or taking a small loss once its all said and done and has a bundled game option.

I think the APU and GDDR5 costs less than or close to $150 combined.
A 3 billion transistor chip in 28nm with good yields will cost ~$60... and the GDDR5 will not cost over $80... I will not be surprised if the two costs $100 only.
I will be buying a PS4 and a Wii U for this generation. If MS drops DRM and the always online components then I'll gladly pick up an XBox One.
