this right here.

..but i saw a statement a while back that xbone was architected to load from a hardrive:

With our modern architecture, Xbox One games will load more quickly, will be always accessible from the cloud, and there is no physical limit to the size or scope of the content provided,” Microsoft writes in a new post to the Xbox Wire blog."

PR to be certain and by no means xbone can't run straight from discs but it makes me wonder if there aren't assumptions about game installs baked into the hardware that would make backing out of their policies difficult.

i have no clue if they can change it and i really like that games have to be fully installed because i think this will result in better games as if the game has to stream data from the disc while running but if they can change something it should like on 360. a full game install but you still have to have the disc in the drive.

If publishers don't put in used game DRM on PS4, idk why they would on Xbone.

The price is more of a hurdle for them than this DRM stuff.

So where are you guys reading the x1 wont support used games? Cuz everything ive read is that its up to the publisher just like sony. The only diff is the x1 only uses preferred retailers.

And theres a way around the whole letting a friend borrow your games if that really bothers you

Installs and online activation for disc based games are mandatory so no is not up to the publisher. Users should be able to do with the disc whatever they want to and not only have the option to sell them through authorized retailers.

Yes and that method sucks, its restrictive, confusing and annoying. Here's a way better method:

Before the launch? I doubt it.

After the see the mistake they made in financial terms? Yes.

It will be too late by then though, but they need to learn this lesson.

no because the console would not work otherwise. The console CAN NOT play games from the disk; and that is what is causing the DRM. They would need to delay the launch; and that is something I think M$ is willing to do.

Can they even at this point? They have already made promises to developers I am sure.

I think they will probably try to. Especially after they heard the crowd at the sony Conference.

Microsoft clarified its position on Friday.  There were posts all over the place about it.

For you and anyone else, Microsoft's Xbox One games trade-in/resell policy

Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.  Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

It's not an issue for me, as I personally have never bought a used game, nor do I like the idea of others getting all their games that. Developers suffer for it imo.

Of course my opinion is pretty irrelevant in the larger scheme of things. MS will have to decide for themselves if they feel the crowd they've angered is substantial enough for them to give in and change their policies. In my opinion the price is a more killer statement by Sony than the whole used game, DRM policies, but again.....just my opinion.

Both consoles day one for me anyway

1 i wasnt arguging which way is right or easier just that the x1 does support used games

2  while that is easier i wasnt reffering to the way they have mentioned  my may is actually better in the long run

you and a friend each make a brand new account on your own x1 (use a email and password just for this), share that information with each other  you both now have 100% access to each others games.  Plus you can still play the game since every account on that console have access to the games on it

Folks, DRM is not going away. Despite what you think or feel, even the current PS3 and Xbox 360 use DRM.

Analysts have been predicting that both the previous generation (Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii) and this current generation (Xbox One, PS4, and Wii U) would be the last generation to use media, and the industry is trending that way. PC gaming is largely digital with a small amount of disc-based gaming.

Rather than fight it, voice opposition to it, people should be communicating how they want an all digital world to work for them. Because whether you like it or not, it's coming.
