Forums - Sony - For those with your head in the sand (PS4 DRM)

You need to read what DRM is, the clue is in the title.  All current consoles have it.  The correct terminolgy would be to say the PS4 doesn't require online authentication for it's titles but it will still use some proprietary DRM.  I'm stating this because it's very important people don't forget that this is an evolution of already existing DRM that consoles/PC's have had for years.

Using lazy terminolgy to describe what the XBO is doing devalues the fact that we are already using many different DRM restrictive practices at the moment.

If you are against DRM then you should be complaining about all DRM not just certain portions of it.  If you are only against online authentication then you should be campaigning against that specifically.  The moment the PS4 was designed to not play unsigned code or to not play copied disks, it was using DRM just like the PS3 and 360.

None of my PS3 games have DRM. None. They can all be played offline without an internet connection.(with the exception being online modes, obviously)

You really do not understand what DRM is, please stop making yourself look ignorant of the subject matter and do some research.  DRM is not Internet authentication alone, are you deliberately being obtuse?

The guy who started the thread has been saying that Sony will not have ANY DRM on their console other than online passes. .

Still confused I see

Funny how you don't have a response to my post that was actually directed at you lol. We both know who the confused one is. If you could actually refute my argument, you would have. Instead you leave vague comments like these.

I already refuted it... I'm psychic... I knew you would make this claim so I countered your point before you made it... (Hint read the OP).

I don't need to waste my time refuting you

But they filed a patent, it shows they thought about it. That's pretty good proof whether you want to believe or not. And if patents don't prove anything why are so many people adament that ps move was thought of before wii motes?

...Uh... wow.... DO you even know the history of the PS Move? It was demoed in what... 2004 I think on the Ps2 before the Wii was even announced. It had nothing to do with a patent.

looks nothing like the wii mote in that demo..... at all. If it came out looking like that no one would make the comparisons to the wii mote.

Dude, they patented a way to implement DRM, I think it's safe enough  to say they THOUGHT about it. I never said they would implement it, but you are trying to refute that they thought about it... LOL. There's a patent.

So your argument is that since they were developing new technology and it changed then the previous stuff is irrelevant? Okay....

I know exactly what it is. To put it simply, a game needs to phone-home to the servers to make sure the game you are playing is legally downloaded. PS4 has already been confirmed to not require an internet connection. So it doesn't have DRM. That doesn't mean publishers can't implement DRM of their own on a game by game basis.(It's already possible on PS3/360) Most choose not to as it is intrusive and only punishes those who buy their stuff legally.

Xbox One sounds like it has DRM on a system-wide level. That's what the 24-hour authentication is for.

Let the "no DRM" campaign continue and we shall keep room for further discussions after Sony's official clarification at the E3 hour.

EDIT: As you stated so, tthe thread title specifies/hints at the portion of DRM where VGKing is arguing against. No reason for complaining about something else.

I never said irrelevant. But ask this... Did it look like the wii mote before? They obviously copied some of the design. My argument is it's not original, I don't know where you get irrelevant from.

And nowhere as silly as arguing a company has never held a thought about DRM while they have a patent on it....

Ironically, this thread was made for those with their head in the sand.

Are you absolutely convinced that they will not implement any kind of DRM?

Because to be honest, I am not. And until they show me they won't at e3 I will not assume. I remain hopeful that they won't. But even  if they do, it won't stop me from purchasing ps4.

Will you be surprised if they do implement DRM? I know I won't be.

Wow... you and the other guy both need to go read the OP right now. My stance is clear in it. And as the other guy stated you being the one making the claim need to prove Sony thought about implementing it. The fact remains there are many reasons to patent something other than wanting to implrement it in a product.

" But right now there is absolutely zero evidence to suggest they even thought about it."

I disagree with that.

"Now, I'm not saying Ps4 won't have DRM... it may possibly have it."

I must have missed that part or inadvertently disregarded it, I am sorry .

Apologies anyone?
