Forums - Sony - Is Sony recovering their greatness? Does the PS4 have this generation locked?

To me the PS4 has been receiving a positive buzz, a little more than what PS3 did receive prior to its launch. That's a good sign and I believe the greatness is about to start with the E3 reveal slated for tomorrow. XBOne on the other hand has the E3 yet to prove more.

People are already assuming as much. But even if they don't use the same draconian methods as MS is, Sony can still find plenty of ways to screw up the PS4--especially at launch.

We won't know for sure until it actually happens.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

I'm from the USA so no Sony does not have this generation on lockdown. I know it is a small sample size but I know 4 other people besides myself buying an Xbox One and 1 buying a PS4 and Xbox One (sorry WiiU). We are adults though and we embrace the digital era. I believe PS4 will sell well in the US but don't be surprised to see Xbox One double PS4 sales here. On the other hand PS4 will sell much better in the rest of the world except for possibly the UK and certain parts of Europe.

If you are adults enough to "embrace the digital age", then you need to pick up a PC. That way you won't be paying $60 a pop for you games. If you are going to give up the ability to trade, sell, or give away your games. At least get something in return, on my PC I get far better software pricing, access to free mods, an online without an additional fee. XB1 has none of these benefits.

just like VITA got the generation locked several months before launch.

Sony will loose money this Gen

I have a gaming PC and I'm still getting an Xbox One. There will be too many exclusives to pass up. I still like the ability to just sit on my couch and game. No I'm not bringing my PC into the living room. I also use my PC for 3d modeling and that isn't going to happen in the livingroom

You are much more of an optimist then i am.   I'm not sure i'd count the Wii U bouncing back as likely.  I mean, some bounce maybe but i question whether it would be enough to be a challenge to anything.

I think a combination of a pricecut and Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Smash Bros. would do quite well.

Obviously the 4 games wont be releasing at the same time, but the fanbases for those games are arguably bigger than anything Sony or Microsoft has, aside from maybe Smash. They are real system sellers. I see them doing quite well in America and Japan.

OP: You assume much, I don't think anyone can say they have this in the bag. However, as things stand right now, Nintendo is unlikely to pose a threat in the 8th gen and Microsofts relevance outside of North America will be paramount to deciding the outcome of the 8th gen. Japan is a lost cause, MS needs Europe.
North America is more than likely to be conquered by the One, regardless of whining about DRM, always online and other aspects of the console people seem to dislike.
I think it will be a really even race between the One and the PS4, if the TV dedication of the Ones hardware and online falls flat, MS has serious issues to deal with, especially in Europe, if it's a great success (cue Borat voice) then Sony has serious issues.

Hard to say. But the PS4 has won nothing, for now there two unknowns in future competition and one known that seems to practically be out of the race already, it's way beyond me why some people imagine that the PS4 and One will somehow help Nintendo get more sales, if anything, they'll be left dealing with the PS360 at their rear and a tough frontal assault from the PS4/One combo, tough times ahead for Nintendo, possibly even worse than they are now.

In terms of marketshare, they've already gone up. ;)

Even if they don't catch the Wii, they won't end this gen in dead last. All they need to do for next is not release with the exact same issues (and we now know, at least one of them is already

Well that's not true.  There are plenty of other issues they could have that could fuck them up.

I mean, imagine if the online DRM instead of MS.

That said.. even if they did reease with the exact same issues they had last gen.  I think they would do better then they did this gen.

I mean, I think it's a pretty uncontroversial statement that the Wii U is a step back then the Wii in terms of popularity and sales.

Xone.  Also seems like a step back.  To me at least.

It has a slight chance to way outsell even the wii, but if it does, I think the Xone will sell on the merits of being a wirless media hub that plays games.  Which, whether you'd count it at that point or not would really be up to you.   As someone on this site jokingly put it to me. "If it does it will win this generation like Samsung is winning the handhed wars".

You just added to a list, doesn't make what I said "not true". ;)

Besides, I can imagine a lot of things, but right now, they are not headed down a similar path that lead the PS3 to be in 3rd place.

Sure it does.  If you say the only beef you like is steak and hamburgers, and i point out that you also like beef tacos, it makes what you said untrue.

Semantics aside... i'm more interested what you think about the other point.  That is, that even if they would of made the same mistakes with the PS3.  That console would have a MUCH easier time then the PS3 did.

Wii U is tracking a lot like the 360 and PS3 did last gen, but i want to say a little worse... and the Xone stuff so far is so negative it seems worse then the 360.  So a system with "just as many mistakes as the PS3 did" would seem to shine by comparison.  Espiecally considering how close then PS3/360 always were even with the PS3's deficits.

like the 3ds was out of the race?
