best fighting series of all time. Yeh, I said it! Come at me Street fighter fans!

Objectively, it has the friendliest learning curve. Much to learn if you want to master it, but easy enough to play so that you don't just feel like you're hitting buttons randomly.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Addenum: SSBB grew because even those who now bash SSBB at every single opportunity bought the game. Seriously, we get it. You prefer Melee. Good for you, no one cares >:{

Brawl is my fav. Take that haters!

That's so true, and I love that about SSB. Friends who've never played can join in on the fun. We just add some handicap points, and voila!

Mine too^^

To be fair, I DID use the first chance I had to remove the random tripping. Otherwise quite a bit better than Melee with the huge amount of stages, characters and extra stuff in my opinion.

I ran the Texas smash scene (melee) from 2004-2008. From 2008 to 2013 i switched over to brawl and i see a MASSIVE difference which i feel can explain why each game sells better than the last.

Melee game is by far the best (competitively) of all 3 games and the FIRST smash game to go "competitive." Any time a game goes competitive it sells more than it would had it been casual ONLY. But to be able to compete at a high level in melee, it takes TONS of tech skill as well as fast paced planning. Meaning, the learning curve is really steep. That was a major turn off to casuals/new players aka the largest base of potential buyers.

Brawl comes out and 4 things happened:

1. The wii install base was MUCH larger than the GCN base so that helps with sales.

2. Brawl is slower/less technical which allows causals/new players to pick up the game and compete much easier than they could with melee.

3. The brawl competitive scene reached high levels of advertisement/competition (evo/mlg...ect) much earlier in its life than melee did so it brought in people while the game was still fresh.

4. Brawl is the BIGGEST game of the 3. It has more content than ssb/ssbm combines. More stages/characters/items/modes. A huge campaign modes, online, stage builder and more. Whether those options are "good" or not is an opinion but u cannot deny that more content gave more players more things to do (which cannot be said for most fighters).

A massive "THANK YOU!" from the depth of my heart. Finally a post from a competitive player that boils down to more than "HURR DURR, SSBB SUCKZ. MELEE IZ BETTAH!!1!!!". The length some people (especially on reddit) go just to bash SSBB is mind boggling.

Great post.

SSBM was dramatically better than SSB.
Brawl is more or less as good as Melee, it did better partially because of the Wii larger install base, and partially because it was easy for Melee players to upgrade, since the Wii was cheap and likely they had already multiple GC controllers.
Smash Bros U will likely sell much less beacuse the console is more expansive and most importantly because SSB players will have to buy 4 brand new controllers to play it.
