Region-locking and half-year long droughts = doing things right.

Its pretty tough for a company, even one with as much talent as Nintendo, to keep 2 platforms supported with new games every Month.

There is a reason why I highlighted software. The handling of Nintendo hardware has been quite poor in the last 2-3 Years.

Well, Sony seems to be managing the PS3 while having announced a lot of PS4 games already. They also have a fair few number of games for the Vita in 2013. And there's a lot of new IPs as well. Not just more of the same.

Sony's inability (or mere refusal) to give their handhelds the same degree of first-party support as their home consoles is what keeps them hobbled.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Sony put quite a bit of focus on Vita in 2012 at least.

The problem there is, 2012 was probably the worst Year for 1st party games on PS3 since what, 2007? 2008?

Wont argue Nintendo has classy 1st party studios, but their stance on hardware has seen better days. While Wii is #1, core gamers didn't like it and with WiiU that trend still remains.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I totally agree that the gaming industry as a whole has lost it ways.

In many ways gaming has hit puberty: it's all about sex, violence, blood and gore in the games and on the business side they're trying to squeeze as much money from the consumer as possible since the budgegs are so bloated.

Games are trying to be Hollywood movies, when they're not.
Game developers think they're Hollywood directors, when they're not.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

E3 is approaching...what about your rumors from your source?...anything new?

I largely agree with this rant. The only thing is that I still play some of the games of the prior generations that were big productions, games such as OoT, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VII, Shadow of the Colossus, these games still interest me.

I believe there is a subtle balance to games that's been lost. Nintendo focuses only on gameplay, and other companies have lost their minds in making their games the next big thing, which is totally pretentious to me, as most have lost their actual charm.

There were days where Final Fantasy and Metal Gear were advertised as big games, but that's because they were big games in every sense of the term, in scope, in breadth, in depth, in fun, in everything.

What I have been advocating for is for Nintendo to get more in touch with its former self so 3rd parties can be more attracted to them. Nintendo is still a conservative company, the same one that saved the industry from annihilation just 30-so years ago. They haven't changed in their roots but their modern approach to gaming is to dummify things and make the games for kids. Back in the day, they made their games for adults but kids played them, as tough as they were, as dark as they were (ganon sacrificing Zelda, etc.). So I think the industry really is due to getting back to its roots and until that happens we will keep seeing the anomalies we see today.

I will get a PS4 but depending on SONY's stance will probably only use it for games absolutely not coming to Wii U.

Seems like there will be a lot of them.

absolutely not. Remember, I am a Japanesey gamer. I do not support/play western games. The only studios stepping up to say im not making games for Nintendo come from where?

If the last generation is coming to go by (or the events of the start of the Wii U), I can't see how his statement is wrong in any way.

Still thinks it's crazy that you just hate western games because they're western, not because of any objective reason.

I dont hate western games because there western. I love Mortal Kombat,Jak and some others. What I dont like about is their design approach. I dont like their visions. I dont like what they think is important for a game and for the industry. Everything that they do and say rubs me wrong way. If western developers focusef on creating "video" games I would have no problem with. They west does not understand the value of just the video game. My animosity towards western developers only started this gen conveniently when are industry is crumbling for

How did they do in 2012, supporting both PS3 and Vita? I know they released a few low selling games and a bunch of collections.

What significant release was there?

Other than having 2012's GOTY Journey, they had:

LittleBigPlanet Vita

Sound Shapes

Gravity Rush

Uncharted Golden Abyss

Super Stardust Delta

Wipeout 2048

Motorstorm RC

Hot Shots Golf: Worlf Invitational

Unit 13

Modnation Racers: Road Trip

Playstation All-Stars

Starhawk

The Unfinished Swan

Twisted Metal

Tokyo Jungle

LittleBigPlanet Karting

MLB 12: The Show

So, fairly packed year.
