I largely agree with this rant. The only thing is that I still play some of the games of the prior generations that were big productions, games such as OoT, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VII, Shadow of the Colossus, these games still interest me.
I believe there is a subtle balance to games that's been lost. Nintendo focuses only on gameplay, and other companies have lost their minds in making their games the next big thing, which is totally pretentious to me, as most have lost their actual charm.
There were days where Final Fantasy and Metal Gear were advertised as big games, but that's because they were big games in every sense of the term, in scope, in breadth, in depth, in fun, in everything.
What I have been advocating for is for Nintendo to get more in touch with its former self so 3rd parties can be more attracted to them. Nintendo is still a conservative company, the same one that saved the industry from annihilation just 30-so years ago. They haven't changed in their roots but their modern approach to gaming is to dummify things and make the games for kids. Back in the day, they made their games for adults but kids played them, as tough as they were, as dark as they were (ganon sacrificing Zelda, etc.). So I think the industry really is due to getting back to its roots and until that happens we will keep seeing the anomalies we see today.
