As long as valve exists and has their cloud running you have your games, yes. Still doesn't change the fact of true ownership. Valve is protecting a license, not ownership.

There's no difference from this than the Xbox One.  When Xbox One servers are gone, you no longer have access to those games.   Those discs will be worthless.

Why pay $500 and be tied to a seperate console when it's essentially what PC has become?

There is a difference, your physical game is yours. You don't always need the same CD key to run the game but you must play. Again...true ownership. Problem is the true power of resale is now out of your hands.

PC is for playing alone, and no, online coop and competitive is not playing with someone.

Family computer again. Can't be compared to personal computer.

I know console gamers who have had their consoles for decades and no longer own their PC's. PC's are being upgraded and replaced at a faster rate than consoles even come out.

That's not a counterpoint...What I said is that you will own your games, and be able to play them even if you buy new PCs or upgrade your existing one.

As long as Sony, MS or Nintendo exist and keep shipping their old consoles you have your games, yes. Still doesn't change the fact of true ownership. Console manufacturers are protecting a license that works on one console, and if it breaks when they've stopped producing it you're out of luck...forever.

Do you believe when you bought a Blu Ray and the publisher gave you a free code for a digital copy of the same movie that you own the second copy? No. Its second digital copy is a free license. The Blu Ray belongs to you. Theres a big difference between allowance and ownership.

I agree with your second part though. If consoles are finished with ownership ownership is done for good. Makes total sense.

The best thing about consoles is the simplicity of a pure gaming machine and ability to own physical games without license keys that can be used anywhere at any time. Xbox One seems to lose some of the best aspects of console gaming.

PC's have upgradeable hardware, massive library of games from all years, better graphical performance, open platform, mods and you can use it for work aswell as dozen of other things.

Xbox One does not have these, but instead takes the flaws of PC gaming like license keys and DRM.

This right here....is the f'n point. The last bastion of true ownership. PC gaming is a sign of a bleak future for actual ownership of games.

Are PC games you buy in store no longer non-digital titles or something?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Two words: CD key.

So you can't install a game on any computer even if you have the cd key?

Of course silly goose ::wink::. I am saying the CD Key and the uselessness of a used sale is where I am getting at with PC games. User rights were taken years ago. The Xbox is showing signs of going down that path and I hope no one else follows them. The Wii U looks fine so Sony is all thats left. Again...nothing against PC gaming, but console gaming going in the direction which PC is currently in...well...theres not that much good that can come from it. PC gamers have adapted and Valve helped make it at least a bit better by giving great deals on their digital games.

All your game library saved in the cloud with your game saves, DLC and gaming history tied to you...following you around no matter where you go? Forever and ever...What is not to understand about why this is appealing? Its the freeking future...

If you know of a way to incorporate this type of freedom in to consoles and create a viable online digital ecosystem, without sacrificing "game trading" and still protecting developer revenue since we know what human nature is like...please call Microsoft or Sony and let them know how to proceed.

So do you expect Microsoft to never close their Xbox One servers, unlike everybody does when time comes and MS did with their Xbox ones?

Essentially, it has showed that console gaming is moving towards embracing all of the negatives of PC gaming: DRM, installations, and all of that, without embracing the advantages: customisability, modding of games, and huge savings through Steam.

Consoles are supposed to be plug and play, social experiences, and this is kind of taking away from that.
