Forums - Microsoft - Here is why i think the X1 will beat the PS4

Hardly anyone want a standalone system anymore,it,s like bying a standard cellphone just to make calls when you can buy a smartphone that does so much more.i think that the added features of the x1 will give it the edge in the long run.it is not us on here who get to decide what devices propel us along with it into the future.it is evolving technologies

it is the masses who eat up new and exciting technological breakthroughs they are the ones who make it acceptable by their mass spending on the latest new thing, think about it.with each new upgrade of their devices with more and more features, apple, samsung and google android are bringing in more and more customers to their side no one can remain stagnunt and remain competitive, they would be stuck in a niche.

i for one would rather have a device whether it be from samsung, sony, microsoft or any other tech giant that allows me to interact with all my other media devices than to have to access it with a multi button remote.i tell the machine to do everything entertainment wise and it does(wish it could get me a cold beer too lol)so to all who are bashing these wonderful extra features on the XBOX 1 i say to you if you want to continue living in the past to bad for you

me and many other like me who are eager to experience something new and exciting anxious await the day when you will come to your senses and realize you got alot of catching up to do..see you soon WELCOME TO THE FUTURE BABYYYY.peace.

Well... Is the PS4 just a dedicated gaming machine?

Has any PlayStation been a dedicated gaming machine?

No.

The PS has always been a multimedia hub. From CDs to DVDs. From Blu-ray to Internet browsing. From TV to Rentals.

What the PS has done well is have gaming as tge primary focus. The multimedia comes as a secondary focus. This is why PS platforms have generally been very successful.

^ Basically what I would have said.

Now, to be fair and put things into perspective, just because Sony focused on gaming during the PS4 reveal event, doesn't mean they won't deliver a better multimedia integration than what they did with the PS3. Just like MS focusing on the multimedia aspects of its console for its reveal doesn't mean it won't be a good console for games.

The wii won last gen and you could not even watch dvds on it rolf what's up with all those people with short term memory problems

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Really, though, why would the masses buy an XO? A lot of other devices do very similar things for less money, some of which many people already own. How much of what the XO does can't be done on a laptop, smart phone, tablet PC, cable-box/DVR, or even the television itself? In many cases, it's just adding another (expensive) layer which really isn't necessary. Just another thing to turn and interact with before you can watch television.

I don't think it's going to take over the living room. People not interested in gaming aren't going to pay that much money for something that isn't really needed. Gamers who watch a lot of television will be interest, perhaps, and it's a good hook that a kid can use to convince a parent that the XO is a good family device, but I disagree with the idea what it's going to go viral with non-gamers.

Microsoft is also going to struggle to make these offerings apply in many countries outside North America or the UK. In much of the world, the XO won't have much going for it besides being a gaming machine.

If Microsoft is going to "win", then they'll need to have the more popular exclusive games. That will be worth more than all the media box stuff, in my opinion. Most of the people buying gaming consoles will be buying them to play games on as their primary reason. I do not see that changing.

^I think WiiU is out of most people's equation at this point. Something major would have to happen for WiiU to have a chance of not ending 3rd.
