Forums - Microsoft - XboxONE full game installs? is a 500G hardrive enough

500G large enough for nex-gen

yes 14 9.52%

no 104 70.75%

yes, for now......but lar... 29 19.73%

Total:147

I would have loved to have a 1tb HDD instead, as it stands right now my meter is 62GB free of 300gb on my 360 and seeing as a PS3 equivelant title takes around 2x more space than the 360 version 500GB is an absoulte minimum and should only be in the budget version

It's enough unless you want to download every game, which very few will want to do anyway.

Every disc game is mandatory installed to the HDD.

Are these installs the size of the whole game?

I don't think it is. My 250 GB HD got full really quickly and I don't even game as much as most of my friends.

With BluRay becoming the norm, and next-gen experiences requiring more space, I think we'll see a lot of games using at least a single layer BluRay to it's full capacity (around 23GB). Look at the sizes of PS3 exclusives, they're huge.

The amount of data on a disc does not equal its install size. Especially for ps3 games. Disc based games sometimes have repeated data on them  to make load speeds/read speeds faster. Would be better to look at the install size of the ps3 and xbox games than the disc size.

The download of Uncharted 2 3 MP is 40GB big, they do use the full size...

I dont have a ps3 and I couldn't find any info for the install size of uncharted 2 besides it was a 20 gig download. Even at 40 gig you could still have 10 games on your drive. Going by pc installs though, 40 gig is a huge install and would make it one of the 5 biggest PC games.

I could only install 4 or 5 games at a time in my 360, managed fine. Play something until I don't want it anymore, delete, install a new game.

For now it should be enough. I have a 80gb ps3 and i run out of space all the time. There are nice discounts on full games like recently Twisted Metal and Sports Champions 2, and if you add the free games you sometimes get with ps plus and some mandatory game installs (gt5 was over 10gb)things go really fast.

Yes. The disc is not used afterwards. If anything it might be less compressed than the disc data.

I play games as my mood... so I need more games installed...

Some times I play 30 minutes of one game, more 1 hour of other and more 10 minutos of another game... sometime I play more than ten games in 3-4 hours.

And I have a lot of friends... they asked me to play online games with they everytime... last month I have a friend that called to me play with him Battle Fanatasy (I never played this game but I download all the Plus games) so I have some hours of fun with him... now if I have to unistall and install a new game just to play with my friend one night that will be disappointing, really disappointing.

I need to have all my online games installed in my console to play at any time with friends.

This is subjective. Have to look at a few things.

We know it has 500GB.

How much space does the OS occupy? Could be anywhere from paltry 5GB to massive 50GB, I have no idea.
How much will a game take up? We don't know that as well, so I'll use the 5GB to 50GB there as well.
How much will all those extras for a gamer (DLC, videos, music, etc.) Again, hard to say, could vary from 5GB to 50GB as well.

So, best case scenario 500GB gets you the OS and 90 games plus extras.
Worst case 500GB gets you the OS and 9 games plus extras.
There variables are key to answering this question.

What does the average consumer get in terms of games?
I have *checks* about 50 games on my PS3 and I want to say on that system with 500GB no issue of space limitations yet. My guess is most people have about a dozen games or so for their system.

If next gen is comparable it won't be an issue, if there is a significant uptick in data required then have an issue. Much of this hinges on the idea of mandatory full installs of games that has been stated. So, simply put, until we have more information really hard to say.
