Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Retail sources detail how pre-owned sales will work on Xbox One

You guys do realize that nobody here is obligated to pay for ANYTHING that M$ or any other game company is offering, right? If you don't like how the sales and distribution of software is implemented with Xbox One or any other game company / console, then simply DON'T BUY anything.

If you don't buy anything, they'll have no choice but to change their business model or lower prices. No one is obligated to go out on day 1 and spend $60 for a digital download of a game for example... like myself. I have NEVER payed full price for new software this entire generation. How did I do it? Simple, instead of running out and buying games day 1 or even "pre-ordering" them like a mindless lemming, I wait a month or two and get said game when it goes on sale at retailers. This way I'm not only saving money, but I'm never really backlogged with games anymore either.

Also, the good thing about the games mainly being digital-only is that this opens up a more aggressive pricing structure a la Steam, where not every single newly-released game has a flat MSRP of $60. I never sell / trade in my games anyway, so if I'm still getting most of my new games for around $30-$40 or so like I am now simply by waiting for sales / price drops, then I have no problem with this model going forward.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

And ms forces its own proprietary azure system on all gamestops.
Sony, please take advantage of this.
The opportunity is so very ripe.

What's wrong with that? Azure is an amazing cloud computing system. The strongest of it's kind in the entire world.

If anything the places like GameStop/Amazon/Blockbuster will be more supportive of MS now since they will gain more sales. People will HAVE to trade them in/sell them at those retailers instead of selling them personally so they will get a lot more business which will more than make up for the added publisher/MS cut of used sales.

I think this is freaking brilliant if true. It is likely to not upset many people because they can still sell their games at stores, and it will make a stronger relationship between MS and those retailers.

People will HAVE to trade them in/sell them at those retailers instead of selling them personally so gamers simply won't buy the system or it's games wich means retailers will have almost no profit from xone's sales or it's games.

Nah, gamers aren't as fickle and bitchy as the internet makes them seem. They will trade/sell their games still, using this new plan, with only minor complaint if any.

You really only get an extra $5 maybe if you decide to do the effort of selling a used game privately via eBay/Amazon instead of trading it in. That has been my experience this entire generation. I can get $30 trade in credit for a newer game, $25 minimum. If I sell it for $40 on Amazon or eBay I then have to pay $5 shipping, and the fees from those places which leaves me again very close to $30.

Really the only way you make more money on used game sales is if you do it on craigslist or something locally and not online.

So if this new setup still allows gamers to sell/trade their games, there is really now downside for gamers. You may have to go to the store to sell it instead of doing it on eBay/Amazon. Whoop-di-doo. The only potential downsides to this are the smaller used games shops out there. But really those have all been driven out of business by the bigger chains of Amazon, Walmart, Gamestop, Best Buy, etc.

who is saying anything abot making more money? and in case you didn't notice, this setup DOESN'T ALLOW GAMERS TO SELL/TRADE THEIR GAMES, UNLESS ON A LICENSED STORES. I can't see how anyone has the guts to try and defend this imorality.

It is far better than the alternative of not being able to sell games at all. Like on PC. Yet you dont hear people on PC bitching and complaining about the littlest things. Console gamers have been so spoiled and haven't realized how great they had it. They are just now catching up with what PC gamers have dealt with for quite a while now.

I'm not saying it is good, but it is better than nothing. In fact, on PC, the games prices are lower, they have sales much more often to get games at much lower prices, so in the end the PC spectrum has done away with the need for selling used games because you can still afford the same amount of new ones. PC gamers gave up the "take the game to my friends house to play it" a long time ago unless they wanted to install steam, download the game, etc (Which by the way, you can always copy your Xbox Live gamertag to someone else's console and they would then have access to your games that way).

Perhaps console games will get price reductions and better sales should the used market start to go this way or eventually disappear altogether.

Never heard pc gamers complain about Diablo 3, Sim city, From dust, other online drm? Why does CDProjeckt get applauded so much for removing DRM. Why is Kickstarter so succesful for games with no drm. What is the average price nowadays of pc games sold? I haven't paid full price for a pc game since The Witcher 2. $10 less Steam sales or no sale.

If the big money is in the pc game model, then why are the big software houses focussing on console games and the pc games are more of an after thought.

At least some people in the EU are still thinking about consumer rights
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2012/jul/05/eu-used-digital-games-market

I wonder what they'll think of this anti consumer protectionism, monopoly or cartel forming strategy. I don't think having the entire after market controlled by 1 corporation is what they had in mind when they passed that ruling.

Why would they drop the prices? With the second hand market under tight control there is even less reason to lower prices. They could have combatted second hand sales by offering new digital versions for lower then shops sell the second hand game. Yet they didn't want to damage their relationship with the shops, so instead opt to make the consumer pay by restricting the second hand market.

It's not going to be like Steam. Console business still relies on their relationship with retailers to sell the consoles and accessoires. They still won't be undercutting retail prices. Plus MS and Sony want a cut too, much bigger cut then Steam I would imagine. If anything games will hold their initial price longer.

People seeming to be forget the question whether two friends can exchange games to play or not. And the answer sounds like a resounding no.

MS can shove X1 deep into their anal cavity and send an X2 after it.

this is such a stupid idea my Soul hurts...of course it's a consumer problem...if the profit margin for the retailer goes down, they are going to want to make that up. How? Lower trade in values/higher used game prices. One or the other. Or both. Sharing games? Gone, unless you want to let them sign in under your account. Trading games? Gone. Add those to not being able to play without an internet connection (i.e. troops), and a focus on the declining market of live tv...Which also may or may not even be usable outside of the U.S...A lot of bad moves by MS on this one.

Sad for people selling games on eBay I hope ms goes down

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

This is the dumbest idea for nickle and diming customers I've ever heard of.

Call me an asshole if you all wish, but if this is the practice they are going with now, then I am going 100% PC and going to only pirate my games.

I am sick of them thinking I should just bend over and take it in the ass. Shit, they don't even seem to have the courtesy to lube that shit up before they ram it in.

there is nothing wrong with taking it in the ass.. a lot of girls do  it and seem to enjoy it..
