No, it seems to mean that Sony will be selling non-gaming entertainment content for the PS4. Like shows or movies for example.

So you think it is some kind of digital content?  I guess that makes sense.  Has Microsoft or Sony said anything about offering digital content in stores?  We already have cards you can buy in stores for digital items.

Yup, basically non-game digital or retail content. It would most likely be cards if it were digital, this is gamestop after all. But who knows they could come up with some form of kiosk which you plug a usb stick into. Beats me!

I haven't heard much about points cards for either this far personally so I can't shed much light on this though I'd like to.

I think what is important to note is that all three of the consoles that have launched have now come back and they say, 'I realize the value of the buy-sell-trade model,' and they have built that into their new consoles moving forward. We anticipate that we are going to be able to leverage that, like we leverage it on the consoles today."

With Wii U already being out though we know Nintendo isnt doing this. However Sony may be and that is what this implies. Nintendos next console may but its really going to depend.

IF MS and Sony are using this and Nintendo isnt but people keep their "I support Sony/MS no matter what" Attitude and its going to be common place. If people flock to the Wii U because of this then MS and Sony will be forced to drop it if Sony does it at all. Of course if Sony isnt doing it they've had plenty of time to just say it. Their silence isnt a sign that they are against this folks. Knowing Sony they will wait it out then not only support this but try to put the blame on 3rd parties or MS and act like they have to do it.

A kiosk is probably going to be needed if all games will need to be verified with a code for your console.

One of the smartest moves Sony could do right now is to keep quiet on the issue and keep an eye on the market, making the DRM scheme a removable option for a worst case scenario.

While it seems the actual content in the OP suggests something else, I do want to comment on your thread title.

Sony is most definitely following MS's footsteps with regards to used games and possibly the required internet connection. I know they haven't said so yet, but let's be honest. Third parties are pushing them to do this. They will use Microsoft as reasons for not wanting to support Sony anymore, or to give worse quality ports. Sony will be following in MS's footsteps. Not because Sony wants to, but because third parties have a gun to Sony's head.

They wouldn't lose out if they did have a DRM function of some design similar to the Xbox ONE. It would make the playing field even. As wfz as has also said, the 3rd party gaming companies/studios are a massive factor here. A factor we often forget about. They are accountable for around %80 of all game sales on the ps3 and 360... The PS4 or Xbox ONE can not survive without them.

I think they'll do it... Still a chance they want the advantage of no DRM though.

Keep in mind, though Sony and MS depend greatly on 3rd parties, 3rd parties in return depend greatly on gamers. And gamers don't like DRM. In terms of business dependency, DRM is a loss.

LOL. That's the impression I got, too.

But let's face it. Sony is gonna do this shit.
