If the optional service was free for publishers to use, it comes down to "would you publishers like more money?" which very few would probably say no to.

Well, it's not that cut and dry. I definitely don't expect publishers to think this way, but it won't necessarily translate into more money for them any more than eliminating piracy would translate into more sales. A lot of pirates are younger kids who either don't have money, or who spend all of their disposable money on games and then pirate the rest. So they're tapped out and there is literally no way to make them into paying customers. A lot of people who buy used games and trade in their old games to buy new ones are similarly young people without a lot of money, and making it difficult or more expensive or outright impossible for them to trade in their old games will just further limit the amount of new games they can purchase in a year.

I understand why it's frustrating for publishers and developers to see a place like Gamestop making money on transactions that they're not getting a cut of (though, again, this isn't entirely true because of the economy of trade-ins facilitating purchases of new releases), but they have to tread carefully here. The nothing-but-AAA(A) games high wire act they've been performing is already incredibly precarious, and this could be what knocks them off it. And at a time of market stagnation it seems incredibly stupid to erect higher barriers for your customers rather than lowering existing ones.

Boom

Tho the "Pay 5 bucks to play that used game" isnt a bad idea.  Save about 10 on average anyway.

Bluray had region lock, but it was up to the developer to implement or not.. so far I only know of one game that implemented it. (P4Arena?)

PS4 has the capability to block used games, and paywall online, but it will be up to the developers whether or not to implement that.

Badly, any company that goes with DRM and pay to play needs to fail, imo

people don't just bend over and let them squeeze every last penny from them, games today are expensive enough anyways with some community splitting DLC just adding to the price. Which also makes smaller companies suffer cause the DLC of hte bigger companies just eat up on their sales, which in turn just causes gaming to stale since people only buy popular games like CoD or BF so we will only get CoD and BF games and clones.

if DRM is as same as the one they have on current PS3 exclusive titles like online pass than I have no issue. If the go the route of xbone one with internet connection mandatory then PS3 will be my last console.. and about online play I have a feeling they will drop the price of PS plus and will introduce a new service including Gaikai and stuff @ the price of PS plus.

But i think Sony should keep online play free that is one thing which differentiated PSN from XBL.

You have the "feeling" they will lower the price?! And will also include Gaikai in ps+ for the current price? I doubt this will work. Sony has to make money off ps+ and Gaikai, they bought it for 400 million...

sort of, what i meant was that Sony will cut some feature from PSplus and will reduce its price from $50 to $20.. and will introduce a new service at 50$ which will include Gaikai and stuff.. Coz if they start to charge for multiplayer, which is one of their Aces this gen, then they have no incentive to ask people to stay on PSN and not to switch on XBL2 in which my opinion people will still think its better coz of its legacy. So to sum up i can see sony charging for Multiplayer access but they will throw in some goodies too.. coz they wont charging for a service which was free and give no incentive

The reaction won't even be 1/10 as negative as it's been for Microsoft. To many people, especially here on VGChartz, Sony can do no wrong. Meanwhile, Microsoft can do no right.

This.

even though if Sony implements DRM, that would mean it was always on the card since the inception of its rumor, but they choose not to talk about it and People will sign blame on MS and EA for forcing this move on PS4..
