Forums - Gaming - Anyone else NOT excited for the next gen consoles?

8th gen is going to be very iffy at best.

I am enjoying the Vita and 3DS so far (and PC if you count that too); as far as I can see, this will be all my gaming for the 8th Gen hardware.

I am not even interested in the Wii U, PS4, or X1.

I will give Wii U the benefit of the doubt, maybe they could make an slew of fantastic 1st party games (and new IPs) like the good old GameCube days. But otherwise, nothing about the system is compelling.

The Xbox One is simply, instantly, and completely terrible.

Continuing to game on a B/C PS3 seems more interesting that PS4 right now.

PS3 can play a monstrous amount of games (PS1 discs, PS2 discs, PS3 discs, PSN downloads, PSP minis), new games are still coming to PS3, and it doesn't cost me anything to keep using the good old PS3.

Other than that, I am looking through a lot of PSP, PS1, GBA, and PC games I have overlooked in years past.

Good times will be had yet!

:)

Gen 8 will be the gen of retro gaming.

I bet all of you guys miss Sega now huh?

This is the natural step that follows when you let companies like MS and Sony take over gaming.

Yeah because Ninty has been REALLY killing it all these years and those systems Sony and MS made were REALLY terrible. Please.

This is the logical conclusion of companies like Sony and MS entering gaming. If you can not see that, you are blind. This is what they strived for since the beginning. Industrialize, monetize, standardize.

Also, if the PS consoles never existed, you can bet the Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, would have all had better libraries than the PS2 and HD twins of our reality.

i am looking forward to the PS4 and i love my Wii U

but the xbox one (such as retarded name) i will never even buy

Thread title is pretty self explanatory. Basically Ive watched both Console reveals and I walk away rather unimpressed. However between the two presentations id have to give the edge to the SONY. I just dont feel that the tech is really pushing the envelope at all. The Graphics, while better dont really seem like a HUGE increase. All in all im completely underwhelmed (esp by microsoft) and i will not be buying any of the consoles. (Atleast until there is a huge Price drop on the Xbox One in which case ill get it just for the Media capabilities or some awesome Must have game comes along).

I guess Im gonna be a PC only gamer the next 5 years or so.

Does anyone feel the same as me? OR am i just a spoiled hard to please PC gamer?

I feel just fine about this gen, for the sole reason that there's one console you conveniently (perhaps purposefully, and if so ignorantly), left out. The Wii U.

It will be the weakest hardware again this gen. But the gap won't be as big or as noticable, epsecially because the GPU seems fairly powerful even if the CPU and RAM are lesser. The games, especially from Nintendo (as usual), will likely be fantastic. And the GamePad is arguably, in MY personal opinion at least, the coolest (and most multifunctional) game controller ever designed. The potential is there. The games WILL be there. So I'm just fine.

I love how "it all comes down to Sony or MS", and people ignore Nintendo. But the truth is, as is ALWAYS the case, Nintendo's console will have some of the best (and no doubt best looking, regardless of "hardware desparity") games of the entire generation. So for that, I'm good. I'm set.

I might get a PS4 down the road, when the (most likely) enormous price tag lowers. So long as there is something else I want for it besides (at this point) just The Last Guardian. But the "One"? No thanks. Wii U will provide me with more than enough.

*raises hand*

Nintendo is regressing back to their niche style games reminiscent of the Gamecube with its Wii U, complete with an awkward controller, and it's overpriced

PS4 just looks like another PS3 with social media streaming, and chalked full of cinema-heavy games which I am not a fan of. It will probably be expensive ($500-$600)

Xbox One... Don't get me started. It looks like a disaster in the making.

If ever there was a generation to sit out, it might be this one.

xbox one is a no buy for me at this point. Ps4 and Wii U will be the combo of choice this gen

I would far rather that Sega still made consoles, and that Microsoft didn't, if that's what you mean. I'd far rather that the only console makers were actual VIDEO GAMES companies like Nintendo, Sega, Atari, whatever, instead of megacorporations that put out very corporate products.

For THAT matter though, I miss the good ol days, when console games were CONSOLE games, and PC games were PC GAMES. As in that's all they were for. You want console games, you play a fucking console. You want PC games (which usually indicated types of games you generally only found ON PC), then you play the PC. It was nice, because you had both, and personally I LIKED both. And I liked them being two seperate things.

Nowadays, PC is practically treated like another console, which is rather silly, and because of things like Steam, PC gets ports of practically everything. I just don't really see the point of it. I think that once upon a time, PC gaming used to be rather unique and iventive. Not anymore. Now, it's all intermingled, and that, to an "old timer" like myself, is just....what's the expression I'm looking for.......ah yes, "Fucking stupid".

But hey.

Fair enough to each their own. I personally dont care for many of Nintendos games. Mario, pikman, Zelda, Mario Cart, Super Smash Bros, etc etc. Idk why I have nothing against them but I just dont care for their games. To be fair I dont care about the majority of M$ or Sonys games either. Ive only bought 1 Game for any of my consoles in the past 3 years. That goes to show you how little these companies have appealed to me. I get all my games from steam anymore or more than likely i just play league of legends. However I do enjoy the media features the 360 has brought me this gen. Im able to stream movies from my PC, and watch netflix etc etc. Its been really nice and is alot of the reason why i even own a console anymore. Otherwise i would have sold it. Its also the main reason why there is still even a flicker of interest in the next gen systems. After a few price drops I might be willing to by the One just for media features alone.

Long Live SHIO!
