Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One controller still takes AA batteries!!

Strange looking at images for the controller I don't see a spot you put them. There will probably be a non battery version and a battery version.

Wait..arent 360 controllers chargeable like the PS3 controllers?

If so why is it "Still take AA batteries" o.O

Yeah, the 360 controller takes 2 AA batteries. You can replace them with an actual rechargeable battery, but it is an accessory you must purchase separately from the console, the "Play & Charge Kit".

And yes I was surprised by this when I got my 360, and had to spend on the charge kit (was worth it though, dealing with AA's must suck), because I was used to PS3's Dualshock 3, which I simply need to plug to USB cable and charge via console. Much simpler.

Wow I didnt know that lol

Good thing I decided to use my PS3 controller for PC gaming.

Also wow....as if I wasnt sick enough to pay for AA batteries for my wiimote....hmm.

There is a charge kit for wiimote since launch

But why would anyone buy a battery version if you can get a non-battery version?

Battery as in AA batteries I mean.

Cheaper?

I'm pretty sure there are other things to be more concerned about. That being said, I find it kinda funny that AA batteries are still required for the controller.

As long as I have the option to use a detachable cord, I'm fine. I never use wireless anyway.

AA batteries are fine. They last pretty long if you get the strong brands. I'm sure they'll keep the rechargable battery packs as well.

But this whole thing about used game fees and fees for online and fees to take a dump are the most decision breaking elements.

MS better come out straight with what their plan is...if Phil Harrison wasn't high during the interview with kotaku, then I'm going to buy PS4. Simple as well.

Officially made by Nintendo or third party ones? I've only see third party ones and I've heard batteries exploding or something (probably from overcharging due to customer fault) but still ;x.

tp ones, like 360

Eww see I dont really like that ;x

I usually only buy first party hardware and accessories for all my systems especially since I've heard bad things about several third party producers lol.

there is a lot of good... stuff in Paraguay for my Wii lol

Xbox One is USB charged not battery http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/22/xbox-one-controller-hands-on

Welcome back in 2006. Even Nintendo moved away from batteries...

I guess I am the only one that is happy about this. I have a whole bunch of rechargeable AA batteries - for my remotes, mouse, camera, controllers, LED lights for places hat need them. I use the new NiH 'Stay Charged' ones and they are great.

I always have a couple of spares charged up, but they last a long time anyway. I would be annoyed if I had to plug it in all the time to get it to charge at night. Plus, bunnies and cords do not mix well.

So this is a win-win in my book.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
