Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

Something like that could very well mean the games will drop in price much faster (ala Steam), which I am all for. And basically the added fee will mean that used games will be just that much cheaper.

I wonder how Gamestop (or better yet, Gamefly) will respond to this?

However, the required linking of the game to your Xbox Live account will definitely be a turn off for those with no access to internet. They might just allow you to go on their site via any connected device such as a computer at the library or your cell phone and activate the game that way and then you would just get a code to enter into your Xbox or something.

This is interesting. Purchase a new game at $60, and share it with a friend who pays the $10-15 dollar fee. Split the total cost ($70-75). Both now own the game, paying $35-37.50 each. Now, let's share it with more friends and split the total cost...

Wait wait wait.

So, you're saying while not needing internet to play, I have to have internet to activate a game once to be able to play it? This is just as bad for me and makes owning this impossible. I do not understand this thinking.

Paying for online and used games?
I really hope PS4 doesn't take this route.

OT: Pretty shady of MS but its still a business, they gotta make that money.

it's probably not always on. It's probably like steam which requires it to be activated.

And like steam the games will be cracked.

If you wanted to let your friend borrow it couldn't you just give him your account? and you play games on his? Thats what I do with my brother on steam all the time.

If the Xbox reads your Blu Rays and can tell if its used or not how can it not be online? I just read a report that says the game locks up with Xbox Live and has manidtory installs.

Waitwaitwait...if it works like this you couldn't even have different savegames on the same console. This can't be happening?

Not sure about that.

Think of this like an online pass but this time, the game you buy (on disk) will be registered to your account. To play the game on another console you'll need to pay an aditional fee, but the game will then be playable without the disc.

yeah, but in PC you dont need to activate with steam or be online, as long as you have the disk.  But in this case in order to play a game it needs to be installed, and in order to do that in needs to be registed with your account, so if you dont have internet to register the game, you cant play.

Nooo!!!! No more renting games for me dammit!

Yay!!!

This is bullshit. What if want to play at a friends house?
