Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

Sad to see the industry waging war on used games. My excitement is gone now.

It is the same way Steam works. I never heard anyone complain about that.
Actually it is more user friendly, because you can sell the game for a fee. Steam does not offer this option at all.

dafuq?  if you buy a PC retail game, you install it, and you register your activation key with your account so you can re-download it again if you wish; but if you give the disk to a friend; as long as he has the actual disk on his disk- tray he cant play the game without having to pay a thing.   The disk is not attached to your account, the activation code that comes with the disk, is.

Kotaku news should be taken with a grain of salt, but according to them, there's no always on connectivity required for the Xbox One, but they also speak of used games having a fee.

Maybe Xbox One Live accounts are tied to the system? So if someone doesn't have online, they still make an offline user name and the game is tied to the system. If they never get online, then the disc doesn't get activated with Xbox One's live servers, so the game even though used if they sell it is still a new game according to Xbox One's database.'

I don't know if that's how it works, but that's how I'd assume it would work until it's confirmed by Microsoft.

Anyways. I own a PC for all my games locked to DRM so no Xbox One for me. I'll be PS4, Wii U, PC exclusive person the eight gen.

Is this somewhat of a confirmation that PS4 is in first place the eight gen? Wii U maybe second place?

Uhmmm... for that to be true wouldn't the One require an Online connection to install a game? I mean how is another console going to know that disc was installed on a different console unless its all done through the internet?

So I'm reluctant to believe it right now.

It's been confirmed. We're talking hard facts here, not rumors.

MS did say online wouldn't be required, so obviously this would be handled offline. There is some kind of system-wide DRM or maybe something on the disc itself that limits how many times it can be installed.

Back again? :) Well yes, it is confirmed. Welcome to nextgen. Please be excited. Time will tell how this will turn out for all of us.

So does this mean a user can't lend a game to his friend? Unless he pays for that feature?

There is virtually no used games market for PC games. There is a HUGE hused games market for consoles games.
It's a problem, this will end up backfiring.

There was a used game market at one time. Now PC gamers expect to pay $20-$30 for top tier new releases within months of release. This is what will happen to console gamers and publishers will not be happy with their new games value depreciating so quickly. I saw this coming a mile away.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Yeah, because Steam offers retail games. Seriously, at least try to adress what I just said.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Who knows really, as they are aiming to non-gaming audience as well.  Some guys might buy it as a movie player and cable box.   But I am confident that the approach of Sony this gen will make them be first,  I say the PS4 will sell like the PS2, but the XboxONE because of the added stuff will sell like a PS1.

DEAL WITH IT.

Sony...don't fucking do this
