Forums - Nintendo - the importance of 3d mario will play a huge role for Wii U

With the Wii U just getting off its feet and trying to find its hold in the market to take off like the 3ds has, 3d mario has to be precieved as one of the best in the series to cater to all players either casual or hardcore that will make people want to get out and get a wii u, 3d land helped the 3ds a ton for being an amazing game with strong sales.. could you imagine if the 3d mario for wii u failed? it would not generate alot of sales and the intrest of the wii u by the public would be "meh" and dont see the full potential it can offer the player. With the HD improved visuals and the second screen nintendo can truly do somthing amazing, giving mario a look like never seen before, working in the second screen in some fashion thats very creative. So the quality of the game has to be top notch with great reviews otherwise it could bomb like sunshine did.

Wii U needs its first system seller, that will sell a ton of copies. The thing the goes through my mind is what happen'ed if this game flunked? it would be a huge dissapointment to everyone, and hurt the wii u in the short and long run.

what do you think? If 3d mario was a failure would it alter the wii U's succsess?

Imba for Super Mario Sunshine didn't save the GC.

Hey. Super Mario Sunshine was panned by some Nintendo fans as well.

I have a feeling alot of people thought Sunshine was a spin off and were wating for the real sequel to Mario 64. At Spaceworld 2000 Nintendo showed a tech demo Mario 128 which could very have eventually evolved in Mario Galaxy and a game like that would have helped GV more than Sunshine.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

It would be the first game that would make me want to buy a Wii U. A 2d Mario is not enough to make me buy a console, but a 3d Mario would definitely get me interested. Right now the only reason I haven't bought a Wii U is because the games I am waiting for haven't been released yet. This is one of those games.

I don't understand those people.

I for one loved Mario Sunshine and still do. It's a great game and a lot of fun.

If they do it right, a 3D Mario for Wii U should do well and increase sales of the console.

Sunshine didn't "save" the GC because it sucked. People expected the same stellar standard as Mario 64 and instead got tepid mush. And yet it still probably moved hundreds of thousands of GCs.

Unless they fuck up 3D Mario U monumentally, it will be a powerful system seller.

I imagine the game will be of quality. I just don't think it will make much difference.

I'd estimate that a 3D Mario game will sell between 1.25 and 1.75 million systems, total, lifetime. The other people who might buy it either already have a Wii U or are waiting for something else.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

They are going to have to pull a Galaxy. nothing held back, push the system to it's limits and utilize it to it's fullest potential. It's going to have to be something completely new, and out of left field. I'm excited, there is a lot of pressure. Galaxy 1 and 2 were IMO the best 3D plats of all time, going to be hard to follow that up.

I really dont understand how a 3d mario can be a system seller for the Wii-U when 2d mario is by far the bigger franchise and is already released on the console.

I am not trying to claim doom and gloom or anything but am i missing something here? I really dont understand the logic behind this thought process.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I think Wii U's baseline will be 2.5x what it is now after Mario 3D/Mario Kart U.

In other words, better, but not through the roof.

Wii Sports is what drove the Wii, the Mario games just piggybacked off it.

Plus there was higher appeal for Mario that gen IMO, because a lot of people skipped the GameCube and even the N64 in some cases, so a lot of people hadn't played Mario Kart and Mario in many years (even a decade plus).

In other words there was a large built-up hunger for games like Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. Wii once they got their Wii for Wii Sports/Fit.

That will not be the case this gen as Nintendo is over-saturating their platforms with Mario games all over the place.

Even if Mario 3D on Wii U is as good Mario 64, rather than Mario Sunshine, Mario 64 couldn't push the N64 past 33 million. The N64 had the perfect 3D Mario + 3D Zelda + Mario Kart and GoldenEye for good measure and still couldn't accelerate much further past the 30 million barrier. You need something else in that mix.
