usually, Kinect and PS move games are ignored by the "core gamers". Wii is said to be a console that doesnt attract the core as well because of its motion controlls. but the question is, will all that ever change? will there be a time where the regular and frequent gamers like our selfs be genuinely interested in motion control gaming?

also lets not act like moton controls do appeal to the core, MS and sony us the kinect and move to appeal to a wider audince, basically the "casuals". so lets not make the thread about whether or not the core audince already like motion controls.

Uhm....they do actually.

I enjoy playing some motion controlled games, as do many of my friends who are core gamers. They can be a lot of fun when you're playing with a group of people. This notion that core gamers can't possibly like motion controls is just absurd

they do? then tell me what games that are coming out now that support motion controlls? look at the list of games with motion controls and tell me if really, that list would attract all the core audince.

im not saying people dont or shouldnt enjoy motion controls. but it would be ludicrous if someone suggests that they appeal to a huge part of the core audince. why are people taking offense in that is beyond me

All of the core audience? lol

No game ever made attracts all of the core audience. Your OP implied that no core gamer could possibly find motion controls appealing, which is simply not true.

no i didnt, i said usually they dont appeal to them, which is true. my question is could motion controll appeal to the core in a big way. its not one game attracting the the entire core audience. its the controllers being a much bigger part in the games that are made for the core

All I can tell you is that core gamers aren't as opposed to motion controls as you think. I'm friends with dozens of gamers in real life and they all enjoy playing some motion controlled games now and again, and are all hopeful that they keep advancing in a positive direction moving forward. These kinds of forums, and internet communities represent a minority of players, most of which are the super "geeks" so to speak, who are dead set in their ways, and oblivious to what's actually happening in the real world.

Fact is, motion controls can be a lot of fun, and are recognized as such by MANY core gamers. Do they get as hyped about them as regular games? No. Do we play them as often? No. Are they technically as good/high quality as regular games? No. They are however, on occasion, a fun change of pace, and they do have their appeal. Even to the core gamers.

motion control as a secondary add-on is fine but not as the only way to play a game

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

over and over again i buy motion based games hoping for a good one and every time i'm disappointed. the concessions in gameplay (rail movements, either inconsistent inputs or heavy assists to make up for inconsistent inputs, mini game format or motion relegated to unneeded mini-games, the "tacked-on" feeling, lag, or significant hits to graphics and level design and AI to budget both manpower and processing power to the adding motion controls to a game) just make for bad games.

listen. when developers can consistently make good motion based games the core will be there. until then the 2 or 3 exceptions in a sea of shit won't change anyone's mind.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in 10 years when the kids who grew up with a Wii and Kinect are old enough to be "core gamers," you might be surprised how much a new generation of gamers can change everything.

yes, i'm a core gamer and i like to use Move as a pointer for FPS games and Move that works like a mouse pointer for Strategy games...
so basically i just like it to use as a pointer like a mouse does on PC games...

Even the best examples sill don't convince me.

Some things were better in skyward sword, but giving up camera control is a big deal breaker. Plus I never got it to respond correctly more then 80% of the time. The mix of 1:1 and gesture recognition for sword fighting caused it to fail regularly or do the opposite.
The gladiator duels in sports champions work a lot better, but I wouldn't want to do that for more then half an hour at a time. Plus you still lose a lot of freedom of movement and moving through solid objects stays a problem.

Shooting is better in fps, but mostly when you're stationary. Running around, quickly checking left, right while strafing forward, going around the corner through a door, all less convenient with pointer controls. Maybe with a lot of practice it will become easier, I had to get used to dual analog after years of kb+mouse too. But it still feels limitting after 3 campaigns, 1 on the wii and 2 with move. Going back to a controller afterwards feels liberating. And since there is a choice this time, why play the limiting version.

Anyway those are the big things that hold it back for me, camera control and freedom of movement. Better accuracy and responsiveness are not going to solve those problems.

I still enjoy motion controls in plenty games build for it, but not as a full replacement for traditional 'core' games. Enhancements are fine.

Motion controls will never have the precision and response of analogue controls. Comparing a pointer-style controller to a mouse is silly, too, because a mouse on a desk will always be more precise than a pointer in the air.

Maybe a controller that can accurately respond to eye movement for precision would work. But until then, the answer is no.

The thread title alone offends me.

A console with motion controls won this generation and will sell over 100,000,000 units.

yes, a console that used the blurmarket strategy, which in the Wii's case it didnt try to attract the "core" gamers but it expanded the market by offering something that appeals to people who did not game. the Wii's sales success and drop of sales at the end of its life shows that the market that it appealed too isnt the same as the one as the ps360

lol @ selling 100,000,000 yet not appealing to the "core" gamer crowd.

And the sales dropoff just goes to show that Nintendo has a new console out and stopped supporting the Wii.
