Oh no its interesting to know what genres and franchises are popular, but comparing a 360 FPS franchise to a racing simulator franchise on the PS3 seems....worthless.

Isn't it rather incredible that an installment from the much smaller franchise has best an installment from the bigger one? Isn't that much more newsworthy than Halo being bigger than Gran Turismo, which something we "obviously" already know. Seriously, think of it like this. Imagine an open world game released alongside GTA5 and outsold it. That would be pretty impressive, right? It would be very silly for someone to come in yelling, "But if you add GTA5 + GTA4 + GTA: Episodes, then you will see that GTA is the much bigger franchise"....thank you Captain Obvious! That's why its so surprising that this game has outsold GTA. Same goes here. Halo has obviously been dominating Gran Turismo this generation - it sold over 10m before GT5 even released its first mainline game! that's a testament to how big Halo is -So now that GT has finally outsold a Halo game, I thinks that's much more surprising. |
Ok I see what you are saying. Playing the "im filtering this thread" card a bit much but w/e. Its your thread. The franchise vs franchise posts if anything are just to keep the GT fans in line from developing a oversized hubris. But nm. Your last line intrigued me......I wouldn't be surprised at all since GT is a 10+ million seller franchise per mainline game. Your selling GT a bit short. Its main weakness is lack of release, not sales per game.
Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Again, it's okay to be of that opinion, but remember much of this site's features are worthless if that's the stance you want to take. Weekly sales, comparing sales of games/consoles whose difference in sales is only 1%, etc. These are all worthless in the grand scheme of things, but it's part of what makes this site so attractive to many. So, you can keep saying it's pointless or worthless, but it's never going to go away. The only way to avoid this is to ignore these threads or leave the site, because trying to downplay their importance will certainly be a futile effort. Most of the members on this site have made a conscious decision to discuss and investigate these topics that you find worthless.
I really dont care if GT5 passes Halo 3, because I believe it is a great achievement on its own to be so close in sales to one of the best selling franchises in the best selling genre this generation. Car simulation is not that mainstream, but it still sold quite amazing. I really hope though, that GT5 passes GT4 sales :D

OH, OH, and according to the OFFICIAL SALES provided by Polyphony Digital (Sony) which also includes digital sales, Prologue is over 5 million and GT PSP is over 4 million, so it's more like 20 million total there LMAO.

Not my thread actually.
Here's the way I see it. There's two methods that people can take to try to downplay GT or GT5.
A - They can say Halo is much bigger than GT, and this is more important than GT5 > Reach; or
B - They can say Halo and GT are about equal, so this isn't surprising. (looks like you stand here)
Either way, they would fail. If Halo is much bigger than GT, then it's very surprising that GT5 outsold Reach, so this is an impressive feat. If Halo & GT are about equal, then you would succeed in downplaying the significance of GT5 outselling Reach, but you would also be inadvertantly admitting that GT is as big as Halo, which many people are incapable of doing. So it's a lose-lose situation.
I find your last sentence interesting:

This is something many people who downplay the success of GT have trouble admitting.
As for this:

What a lame cop out. Bring up some slightly related topic in any other thread just to give your brand an advantage would be seen as an obvious effort at downplaying, yet why is it encouraged here? And your point is weak anyway, since those posts were made well before any "obersized hubris" posts were made. It was just a clear case of damage control.

Not franchise vs franchise.
Not game vs 5 games or whatever other absurd comparison you make.
