Who knows, we could take it back (temporarily) once MS gets serious on a price cut.

2013 will be hilarious if a see-saw effect happens.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

You realize that PS3 is the same price as an X-Box 360 right now right? If it had no blu-ray, a lot of PS3 exclusive games (like MGS4) would not have stayed exclusive because then they would have designed the game for a smaller storage medium, thus making it possible to play on 360.

Plus, I don't think the price of PS3 would be any different with or without blu-ray. It's only cutting into Sony's profits.

You can't ignore the fact that many early PS3's were bought as cheap blu-ray players. If they were bought solely for games, then PS3's tie ratio (software sold per hardware sold) would be just as high as 360's, but it's not. In fact PS3's tie ratio is lower then XB's, PS2's, 360's, GCN's, and PS1's, and only just above Wii's (Which laregly sold to a more casual crowd).

Wrong. 

360 sales are way more skewed towards NA and UK which already buy more games per console than other regions where PS3 sells considerably better than 360.

PS3 tie ratio in USA: 11.2

360 tie ratio in USA: 10.7

PS3 actually has a better tie ratio there, but because of the much larger 360 userbase there the average WW tie ratio is higher on 360.

So people in Japan bought PS3 for Blu-Ray then?

A tie ratio between 9.9 and 8.7 is a huge difference. A tie ratio difference of only 0.8 lower and PS3's tie ratio would be the same as Sega Dreamcasts. A tie ratio of 1.1 greater for the 360, and the 360 would have the highest tie ratio.

Also I only claim that many PS3's were bought for Blu-Ray and that's 100% true. Maybe it's only 2-3 million, but it's something. A lot of people also bought a 2nd 360 as a replacement console, we can't ignore the original 360's fail rate (This would make the true 360 tie ratio higher though, which makes the Blu-Ray arguement more prevalent).

Not damage control at all. Its not over when the systems arent on sale,if that was the dase then ps2 was still in the war with gc and xbox and we know that is not true. its over when new systems are out. 7-8 years in last place means they failed this gen. the xbox 360 was "the" console this gen. Just look around and mostly erveryone plays 360 mainly.

That is some perfect logic for you.

PS3 was in "last place" for 7-8 years despite outselling 360 the vast majority of the weeks? 360 was "the" console this gen, despite being 23m below Wii? How do you justify this?


Wii won this gen but in terms of the main console it was the xbox 360. ps2 was "the" console last gen,etc. PS3 has been in last for years,what do you mean weeks? Overall if what i mean and that is what matters.

Its lead in Japan should be larger to tell the truth. Sony has been ignoring the Japanese in an attempt to win over the west. I hope they fix this next gen because they'll clean house. When Sony launches GT6 this crap is over.

So where are we looking at again?   Your friends house?  Should we go around your neighborhood and ask around?   Maybe that would make sense, yeah sounds perfect. Orrrr maybe your logic is flawed and your using your own personal experience and bias to extropolate that same opinion and imply it to "everyone"?   At 77 million a piece, how can mostly everyone play on 360?   I could spin the flipside of it and say mostly everyone (that I know) plays PS3..

They might be close to 70 million but a chunk of that is in japan. MS is much higher in the U.S and U.K and those are far more bigger and importatn markets. When i say mostly everyone is on 360 i mean the U.S which is the biggest and most relevant market. Go see ign,weekend confirmed,cagcast,gamespot,giantbomb,etc and all of them play 360 mainly.

Lets see how trendy the 360 is without new games or Kinect support for this holiday season. They'll cut the price and just leave it at that. Sony will beat Microsoft in a clean sweep just like they always do until Microsoft releases one big product at the end of the year to save their year.
