Forums - Nintendo - WiiU pads not for sale?

So I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who owns a Wii U, and he tells me that Nintendo doesn't sell the control pads for the system separately. I found that pretty shocking. We're talking about the standout feature of the system, and they won't sell even sell you extras? According to my friend, he would have to buy another Wii U to get an extra pad for his console.

What kind of ridiculous nonsense is that? There are probably quite a few Wii U owners that would be interested in buying another control pad, which would earn Nintendo some good money. So why on earth aren't they selling them, does anyone know?

At the moment any game doesn't have dual pad support those games should come out by the end of the year then they will sell Wii U game pads separately

What would you use the extra Wii U pad for?

The system only supports the use of one GamePad for now, so what purpose would there be in buying a 2nd one right now? When Nintendo actually has games that use 2 GamePads, they'll sell them separately.

It'll come with time (and with 2 gamepad support)
Nintendo takes things nice and slow.

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Give me one good reason why you'd want to buy an additional gamepad.

A little hint: there is none.

Really, all the games only support one pad? Well that seems illogical as well, but ok

My friend just said he'd love to buy another one, so I figured it must be good for something

Then your friend is an idiot.

Alright, I'll take your word for it, but shouldn't Nintendo be making sure there ARE reasons?

So they could....you know.....make some money off them
