Forums - General - 12 People Shot at Mother's Day Parade in New Orleans.

More information has been added to the OP (Now 19 people have been confirmed as injured not 12 as previously thought) plus Source #2 includes a video and more details:

CNN - Abdul Aziz believes he was standing right next to a shooter Sunday when gunmen opened fire at a parade in New Orleans, injuring 19 people.

"Everyone around me, except me, was shot," he said. "I was pretty fortunate to get away."
Aziz, 33, a photojournalist, was at the parade when shooting started at the corner of Frenchman Street and North Villere Street.

"We turned off of a main thoroughfare to a smaller residential street and that's when the shots rang out. I was standing, I believe, right next to the shooter. I saw muzzle flash, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to see who the shooter was," he said.

People panicked and ran.

Aziz, who has worked in the Middle East, started taking pictures.

He sent those images to CNN iReport.

"It's a little jarring when you see these types of things on the home front," he said. "I'm sad. I love this city. We're plagued by crime, and it's just not getting better no matter what we do."

Remi Braden, a police spokeswoman, said that a young girl was among the 19 people who were injured. The girl suffered a graze wound to her side.

According to police, 19 people were injured in the shooting, including two children. Ten men and seven women were among the victims.

An other case were a good guy with a gun could have saved the day

Please tell me you are joking.

Because he shoots somebody, somebody shoots him, then another person shoots that person.

Everyone pro with banning guns should look at Chicago and realize just how stupid and irrelevant it is

If civilians would carry guns, you bet your ass robberies and shooting would go down
It sucks that I can't walk down in my hometown without worrying about getting shot

You have to worry about getting shot? Why don't you move?

Do you know how ridiculous the taxes are in this city, Chicago is beautiful but is a shit place to live

and besides everyone I know lives in this area, while it is moderately dangerous, it's still unfortunately my home

thats why I live in Milwaukee. And I disagree, Chicago is a shit hole. Only good thing about that place is the Blackhawks.

Well then, if you get shot the only person you can really blame is yourself. You know the area. You know the risks. You decide to stay.

True I do know the risks but carrying a gun would make me feel more safe and besides you can live in the so called "safest place" and not be completely safe if you know what I mean, so life is basically a risk in itself

My wife wanted to go to UIC. I said fuck no. showed her crime rates, cost of living, and UWMilwaukee. It's cheaper for her being an out of state student in Wisconsin than in state at UIC... man I hate Chicago.

I think it's because of GTA. We need more guns.

Time to ban parades. And New Orleans.

I'm sure most people would be fine with both of these recommendations.

You only say that because you are 15.

I am 100% fine with those and I'm from New Orleans

I'm 14... but, close enough.

Younger people are supposed to love parades!

I know the USA is a big place but these shootings are a bit common now aren't they. I can't wait for the NRA to say something stupid again

...no they arent. Shootings that are common are in chicago in the ghetto with illegal guns.

Well i hear about them nearly every week now despite not living in America, but it's like the media seems to pick and choose what they report, rather than report everything

Better than hearing about it every hour with counting the shootings in Chicago.

I guess so, what we see is normally bad news anyway. But i remember hearing there were at least 500 shootings in Chicago last year. I hope Watch Dogs emphasises that riduclous crime rate

There were 500 murders from guns last year in chicago... Shootings? a whole helluva lot higher. A lot go unreported

That's crazy but they must be other places in the USA that are as bad. I though some parts of LA were supposed to be quite bad for crime
