Absolutely.  I can't imagine it happening, but I hope they only release one version of their mainline games on the Switch.  

In the last two generations (X/Y and Sun/Moon), worldwide sales have changed by +0.02% and -0.06%.  In comparison, sales in Japan have dropped -0.22% and -0.15%.  I believe that worldwide numbers would have dropped too if it weren't for the Pokémon Go boost.

I can't speak for the world or Japan, but Pokémon Sun was the first mainline game I couldn't finish.  It feels like a big, convoluted mess of mega evolutions, z-moves, cutscenes, grooming, and loading screens.  Maybe I'm just too old to understand these changes.  I just wish I could go on an adventure, catch my favorite Pokémon, complete the Pokédex, battle gyms (or trials are fine), and become the very best.

Thanks for the numbers. So the third versions usually sell between 1/3 and 1/2 of the orginal, with BW2 being the outlier and selling over 1/2. So Ultra SuMo should do around 1,4 - 1,6m LT maybe a little more, depending on where Sun and moons LT numbers end up.

It wouldn't be a decline relative to the ratio trends, but it is an overall decline.

I just want it to be an actual adventure. Pokemon games have become so tame and cuddely. I want it to have more emphasis on wilderness (not neccessarily suvival, but challenge) and surprise again. A town should be a refreshing revlieving sight after barely making it through the route there, not another chic little thing to look at after a leisurely stroll. I'd love a Metroidvania/BotW/Dark Souls/Xenoblade approach to difficulty, where if you annoy the wrong pokemon in the wild it WILL wreck you, but only slightly weaker/same strengh/slightly more powerful pokemon actually attack you without being provoked.

Both arent guarateed yet if ever, but i willl say smo imo has a better chance of hitting 3mil then splat2 hitting 5mil. (5mil is a very tall goal).
