Forums - Sales - COMG! Japan Pre-order Chart Thread - Daily updates!

I'm just happy Splatoon continues on it's success story, which is one of some for Nintendo despite their struggles this generation. A (mainly) online, mulitplayer third-person arena shooter taking Japan by the you-know-what and reaching heights that usually JRPGs and Mario have done over the years in the Japanese gaming industry. Really incredible. This puts Nintendo in a better position for this year, at least, because Splatoon is already huge in Japan (cameo collaboration with Squid Girl, Callie and Marie vocaloid concerts, various merchandise, manga, etc.). Now if only it had an anime to go along with it and it could almost be like Pokemon, though even that is hard since Pokemon is Pokemon.

wow!
splatoon 2 is aiming to hit more than 1 million first week.
impressive. seems that people who doesnt even have a switch are preordering splatoon 2.
With current switch base in japan, the attach rate must be insane, like zelda is in americas and europe..
better nintendo start stocking largellly the switch.

Look, I'm not saying your prediction is wrong, just that it's bold and -- in my opinion -- unwarranted. You're talking about a level of sales right out the gate exclusively reached by the very few titles that are obscenely popular and heavily front-loaded in Japan, AND have the benefit of releasing on a platform with a huge install base. These are Pokemon / Monster Hunter circa 2013 expectations, on a system four months old! The math isn't there for me. It implies that Splatoon is bar none the biggest gaming IP in Japan right now, and maybe you believe that, and that's fine, but it hasn't proven that yet, and I deal in numbers. This would be unprecedented as far as I'm aware. It requires a perfect storm to pull this off (Splatoon has to be as popular as we think it is, AND it has to be front-loaded which has not been tested, AND it has to overcome a relatively small install base partly hindered by stock shortages).

I'm not necessarily siding with these tbone-esque predictions, but it doesn't seem like you are taking into consideration the fact that Splatoon 2 is a system seller. If Nintendo is able to ship enough systems the week of its release, people will buy one for Splatoon 2. That will in turn make the argument that a small install base hindering Splatoon 2's FW sales a little less necessary.

$platoon is going to be big... I hope Arms does well as well...

There is a critical unanswered question about Splatoon as a franchise. Is it the type of series that sells 10-20% of its lifetime sales its first week, or 40%+? Is it Animal Crossing (640k first week, 4.5 million lifetime) or is it Pokemon (2 million first week, 4.4 million lifetime)?

There's nothing wrong with being an Animal Crossing type of seller! That's the best-selling game in Japan this generation. I'm just not going to assume that it's a Pokemon / Monster Hunter type of seller just because there's a lot of hype. I'm sure it will be a system-seller in Japan, not only in July but throughout the Switch's lifespan. That does not mean that two-thirds of the people who bought the first game over a span of two years will be certain to pick up the second one immediately upon its release. This might be the type of game that gradually sells several million copies week by week, month by month, rather than all at once.

NSW - 22
PS4 - 12
3DS - 7
PSV - 0

Please stop posting these numbers.  It doesn't help the thread.

Why? This clearly reflects the interest in consoles. So far, Switch is leading, PS4 and 3DS are doing well, and Vita is probably finished.

Are there a toplist of all time ?

Splatoon 2 is simply killing it, hot damn!

Very nice, Tekken 7 is finally starting to move!

Hot Shots Golf showed up very early, that's good too!

I wonder what the the Switch Sales would be before Splatoon 2?
