Amazing day for Zelda and 1,2 Switch!
DQH1&2 and Bomberman are showing some strength too! Go Go Go!!

In 10 days we'll have another 3 titles, hopefully, Disgaea and/or I am Setsuna will appear. And just a day before the big day, another slot. A hope for Puyo Puyo and Nobunaga say Hi on the chart hahaha

So far, 366 points for the Switch! How many units this should translate into sells?

Well, it kinda does. just take a look at the yearly charts from 2008 (where console sales peaked) until 2016. Every single year the console market is shrinking. We came from almost 100milion a year (consoles+handhelds) down to a measly 37 million a year. Taken together, DS and Wii in 2008 outsell the entire console market in 2016 by over 10 million. At the same time, the PC Gaming sales breaks new records every year, even breaking a record mark in 2016 not expected until 2018

Ah yes, the 7th generation. The dead horse we are still beating to try to proove that console gaming is dead or dieing. The truth is that the 7th gen is simply an anomaly that paved way to the current casual market who simply migrated to smart devices. Before that we had a market that did on the home console front less than 180 million in 6 years. Will thgat number be reached by the Xone/PS4/WiiU combo? Of course it will be. Will there bve more revenue generated because of digital distribution models? Sure there wille be. Iss the Switch a wild card? Of course.

In all honesty the market is just as volatile as it was 15 years ago. We still cannot predict jack shit. The PC industry also had a resurgent period in the late 90's, but it faded away a bit just to receive some new attention a decade later.

If it was just about the 7th Generation being an anomaly, then the sales should have stopped dropping after 2013. Yet they still go down every year. I hope the Switch can turn the tide.

Also, anomaly or not, the 7th Generation had a huge Userbase. It's a failure for the console market in itself not having managed to keep that userbase or at least attract new players to replace those not playing anymore

You also combined the handheld and home console markets which are different markets entirely.  And handheld market is a whole other levely of anomolous, growing from 80 million to 220 million which is ludicrous.  This generation looks to be fairly in line with the 6th.

Nier passes the historic 100 point marker for ps4 titles and welcome new ps4 title title!

1-2 Switch is doing really well in Japan, lol. And Zelda in beast mode. I wonder if this will be the first Zelda to break the 10M barrier WW (including Wii U version). A man can dream, right?

If we are focusing on Japan only, you can see the decline from all sides (which is what COMG generally is focused on). Compare it sixth generation if you have to (Actually that might make handheld look healthier than it is, since it is suffering the most in recent years in Japan). The fact is home console market and handheld market are declining in terms of pure strength in Japan, namely for certain franchises as seen recently. However I do agree with you that the overall global market is actually healthier than before, due to persueing new forms of revenue from digital subscriptions to digital downloads, to other methods. Obviously this conversation can be discussed to death, the real issue that keeps happening is the spinning done by some to suit their argument for console perference, namely when decline is noticable. Couple of users are really bad at it, to the point we have jokes about them lately, example of these jokes range from Hiska-Kun being super sarcastic to others just being dismissive and/or referencing poor judgement.

Hory shiet. Go 1-2 Switch!

really didn't think Nier would see anything like 100 points before release

with another ten days leading to release, should get 120
