Wow, this thread gets so heated, lol. This is where the true console wars are.

That amount of sarcasm reached god-tier levels, Hiska. lol

Chartz being Chartz, btw.

Horuhe, you're a good contributor to this thread. Don't bring that GAF hivemind nonsense into here.

Nioh has debuted well in the UK. Your turn Japan!

" ‘GTA V’ is now one of only 5 titles to claim a minimum of 12 No1’s on the All Formats Top 40 Units. The others in this list are ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ (18 No1’s, Eidos/Square Enix), ‘Wii Fit’ (16 No1’s, Nintendo), ‘Zumba Fitness’ (13 No1’s, 505 Games) and ‘FIFA 14’ (12 No1’s, EA). Debuting at No2 on the All Formats Top 40 Units is Sony/Koei Tecmo’s ‘Nioh’, developed by Team Ninja, most notable for the ‘Ninja Gaiden’ and ‘Dead or Alive’ games. In terms of the All Formats Top 40 Revenue Chart, ‘Nioh’ debuts at No1, thanks to an overall ASP of £44.45. Coming back to the All Formats Top 40 Units, Capcom’s ‘Resident Evil VII: Biohazard’ drops to No3 after 2 weeks at No1, followed at No4 by EA’s ‘FIFA 17’ and at No5 by Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’.
Last week’s big new release, Square Enix’s ‘Hitman: The Complete First Season’ drops 4 places to No8 and Nintendo’s new last week ‘Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World’ also drops 4 places to No24."

Possibly a bit OT, but wanted to ask to horuhe and hiska-kun: since boxes for USFII have started appearing in retail stores, and given how they seem to look final (at least the back), doesn't that mean that the game is releasing soon enough (like, April)?

Quoting myself since it seems my question went unnoticed :P

Great day for nier, but not for horizon

You could simply replace charts with one user and you'd be 100% accurate.

I'm just really looking forward to first week numbers.

Yeah, sorry for that. Me too, I mean, Japan is always an interesting place where to look for console releases.

Not, really. Stores in Japan usually do that (showing box cases), and what's worse is that there is no a release date announced, so Japanese retailers can't start reservations. They don't usually do if the release date isn't confirmed.

Yeah, sorry. It was my bad. I saw that comment and had to say it. What's true is that the console is almost everywhere reserved with at least one game. Not mandatory though.

Just remember,  people claimed the home console market was dead pre ps4/xb1 launch mainly because the Wii U bombed.  They claimed the pc was taking over.

4 years later and the ps4 is the fastest selling Playstation console ever.  Sony pulled it off so I'm not counting Nintendo out.  Sony had and 85m target to beat last gen and now the Switch has a 70m target.  Will it do it?  See you in 5/6 years!

Well, it kinda does. just take a look at the yearly charts from 2008 (where console sales peaked) until 2016. Every single year the console market is shrinking. We came from almost 100milion a year (consoles+handhelds) down to a measly 37 million a year. Taken together, DS and Wii in 2008 outsell the entire console market in 2016 by over 10 million. At the same time, the PC Gaming sales breaks new records every year, even breaking a record mark in 2016 not expected until 2018

Ah yes, the 7th generation. The dead horse we are still beating to try to proove that console gaming is dead or dieing. The truth is that the 7th gen is simply an anomaly that paved way to the current casual market who simply migrated to smart devices. Before that we had a market that did on the home console front less than 180 million in 6 years. Will thgat number be reached by the Xone/PS4/WiiU combo? Of course it will be. Will there bve more revenue generated because of digital distribution models? Sure there wille be. Iss the Switch a wild card? Of course.

In all honesty the market is just as volatile as it was 15 years ago. We still cannot predict jack shit. The PC industry also had a resurgent period in the late 90's, but it faded away a bit just to receive some new attention a decade later.
