(As in, PSP is vastly more popular in COMG-circles, so more points for a PSP game on here = less actual sales). There's probably been a similar swap between Pokemon Black&White 2 -> Pokemon X & Y (i.e. DS -> 3DS), but I'd imagine it's far less severe than the MonHun swap. I'm beginning to wonder why Pokemon is going so slowly, too. But I presume it's something to do with stock. |
pokemon has 1mil pre orders as of yesterday

I think it's doing really well compared to Pokemon D/P and it has digital sales to add. That for me si the most comparable game to X/Y
This slow on a weekend? Everyone must be playing MH.
GTAV will end up with over 200 points. There's a good chance it gets close to 250. How much would that translate into?

It's stock, Black/White 2 was only localized a year ago, and only released 2 years ago in Japan. To make a whole new engine, and have a worlwide release in 2 years is just.....wow. GameFreak was probably still touching it up when the opened for pre-orders, and Nintendo can't produce enough copies. |
I'm... not quite sure why you're telling me this. I was saying the same thing in the post you quoted!

I'm... not quite sure why you're telling me this. I made a comment about the 1 million pre-orders in this very thread!
People is busy playing MH4 to go to pre-order pokemon. Yeah, that must be the reason.

This was a while ago, but I thought this would be an interesting topic to revisit in the wake of MH4's release. Portable 3rd ended with 5,024 points on COMG and sold 1.951 million copies FW according to Media Create. MH4 ended with 3,872 points on COMG and sold 1.715 million physical copies (best to assume COMG wasn't including download cards in their numbers) FW according to Media Create. This means Portable 3rd had roughly 388 physical sales per COMG point, while MH4 had roughly 443 physical sales per COMG point. Obviously one example isn't conclusive, but it seems to me that both the genre/series and the platform have an effect on how COMG points translate to actual sales. |
I suppose that's a fair statement, although there is quite a time gap between releases (there is also the sequel effect to consider). Will be super interesting how MH4G or MH5 plays out with COMG and all of the other metrics.
