Forums - Gaming - Wait What? Metro Last Night - $5 for Hard Mode?

I don't know how this could be true, sounds terrible.  You have to pre order Metro Last Night or pay $5 for the 'hard mode.'

Will this cause you to skip the game?

Did you pre order?  Will you still get it?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Gotta make up for those debts somehow eh?

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

The last one was challenging enough on Normal mode. If you want to subject yourself to torture by playing this on hard i guess you should be charged.

Really though. This is quite bizzare and new.

This is disgusting if it is true

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Its ranger mode. It was DLC for the first game. You can play Ranger Mode on Easy or Hard. You still have Easy Medium and Hard mode then you have Ranger Easy and Ranger Hard.

Ranger mode is pretty much:

Less bullets to find

No HUD

You kill everything fast

Everything kills you fast

Edit: looks like they took out hard mode..if what he says is true that there is only normal and ranger.

what can i say, people have to realize that games cost more and more to produce and that money has to come from anywhere. gamers don't want to have higher game prices as a decade ago? then they get the same prices and have to pay for some stuff which was in the game a decade ago. what do people who ask for always better tech expect? that we can still pay 60 bucks in the year 2033 and get the same amount of content just with much higher costs for the devs?

that doesn't work as long as sales numbers don't increase by a huge margin and that's not something we can really expect.

wow....

this is interesting: http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/11/metro-last-lights-ranger-mode-will-cost-5-for-non-pre-orders-because-of-retailers/

“Game makers and publishers now live in a world where offering game content as a pre-order exclusive is a requirement by retail, and Ranger Mode seemed like the best choice since it was a mode for hardcore fans who would most likely pre-order the game, or purchase it at launch in any case,” said Beynon. “We rejected requests to make story content or additional missions exclusive. We also rejected requests to make this a timed exclusive.

“We do not recommend Ranger Mode for a first playthrough, and this is made very clear both in-game. We expect Metro fans will want to try Ranger Mode for a subsequent playthrough, and we think that for this hardcore player, Ranger Mode offers a richer experience – but only once you’ve clocked the game at least once.

“We took all the steps we could to ensure that, while still offering retailers a pre-order incentive that met their needs, we did not force players to pre-order, or make them wait to get this content.”

Those who don’t pre-order the game can purchase Ranger Mode at launch for the aforementioned $5/£3.99, which Beynon said is “the lowest 1st Parties would permit us to charge for content of this nature.”
