Forums - Gaming - Wait What? Metro Last Night - $5 for Hard Mode?

2033 was great. I already have the game pre ordered so this doesn't bother me.

Never bought Ranger Mode for Metro 2033 and never intended to do so this time around.

As stupid as this is it has been known since last year and all first run copies have it included not just pre-orders.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Wonder if Nintendo will ever do this...
Just imagine the sh*tstorm...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

this is interesting: http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/11/metro-last-lights-ranger-mode-will-cost-5-for-non-pre-orders-because-of-retailers/

“Game makers and publishers now live in a world where offering game content as a pre-order exclusive is a requirement by retail, and Ranger Mode seemed like the best choice since it was a mode for hardcore fans who would most likely pre-order the game, or purchase it at launch in any case,” said Beynon. “We rejected requests to make story content or additional missions exclusive. We also rejected requests to make this a timed exclusive.

“We do not recommend Ranger Mode for a first playthrough, and this is made very clear both in-game. We expect Metro fans will want to try Ranger Mode for a subsequent playthrough, and we think that for this hardcore player, Ranger Mode offers a richer experience – but only once you’ve clocked the game at least once.

“We took all the steps we could to ensure that, while still offering retailers a pre-order incentive that met their needs, we did not force players to pre-order, or make them wait to get this content.”

Those who don’t pre-order the game can purchase Ranger Mode at launch for the aforementioned $5/£3.99, which Beynon said is “the lowest 1st Parties would permit us to charge for content of this nature.”

So, basically they wont make any money off this then and its kind of weird arnt there dlc on psn less then $5 bucks? Anyways if this is turn then retailers also have power over what a developer and publisher can and can't do?

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

I'll buy Metro next year when its 7 dollars on steam and maybe just maybe I'll purchase ranger mode for an extra 5 dollars.

I don't see this becoming too successful. If they wanted money then $5 for Easy Normal Mode is the way to go.

They always have with all sorts of media. Public outcry can get products pulled, and if retailers dont think something will sell, they just wont stock it. Digital distribution will help as than the retailers are also the game system makers. But it may hurt in that they will have more control.

Kind of surpriced maybe the dlc thing is back firing on devs/pubs. Anyways I get that retailers cant guess on which game can or wont sale, but judging game sales on per-orders alone wont give much insentive. But hey I wouldn't know cause people here barely per-order games.

As I said, you still have EASY - NORMAL - HARDCORE mode in this game then you have Ranger Easy and Ranger Hardcore.

Unless you plan on buying the game months from now, Ranger mode will be in every box. By the time it isn't you will be picking the game up for $10-$20 and ranger mode will probably be less than a $1 if not free. So its not really that big of a deal.

I still hate that they did this.
