It won't get a "price cut" until 2014. However, that doesn't mean this holiday we won't see holiday sales plus bundling.

3DS got a cut because it has a massive $50 to $60 profit margin at launch. Wii U had a small loss at launch.

That is a big difference.

$200 won't be possible until 2015.

Q2 2014 they'll drop the dual skus and price to $250.
2015 we'll likely see $200.

Ur could be right about price cut, from a business perspective they propbably dont want to do a price cut til the next fiscal year and with high profile games releasing the 2nd half of the year along with a marketing push and holiday deals/bundles, Iit probably doesnt need one. So $50-70 cut in Q2 2014, $200 late 2015, $150 early 2017, I could see a price cut every 18 months or so.

Considering that $299 for Basic SKU was priced when yen was weak, I'd say they can slice a bit off for the holidays. Around $20.

They need a better bundle for Deluxe SKU though. Or standalone deluxe for $299.

With regards to the 3DS price cut Iwata said what they learned from the Gamecube was they should've dropped the price earlier while the system was still new. So I think we'll see a price cut later this year - but not by more than $50. Alternatively they could boost the value of the basic pack by bundling Nintendoland with it, too. The premium would still be worth the higher price (more storage, gamepad charging cradle, sensor bar, 10% eshop discount, black console). Currently the basic pack is severely overpriced compared to the premium - it doesn't sell.

As for $200 that won't happen before holidays 2014 and it'll depend on the Wii U's sales pace next year.

A price cut this year is a given, Mario Kart and 3D Mario alone are not turning around this trainwreck on their own, nor is a up-resed 10-year-old Zelda game.

It'll be $200 by summer 2014 IMO.

We're already seeing retailers in the West discounting by large amounts, especially in Europe.

This is no Wii, and it isn't even the 3DS IMO (Nintendo's always had a lot of cushion in the handheld space, consoles are much harder for them). This is more of a GameCube 2013 with less 3rd party support.

The basic model while go down to $200 before the holidays and the premium will be under $250. If sales are still lackluser then even with the holiday's the Premium model will go under $200 in the beginning over 2014, otherwise any model of the Wii-U will be $200 or lower before the holidays of 2014, unless sales explode to Wii levels wich is very unlikely.

In some US states they don't pay Tax so when comparing prices you do it pre-tax then convert it to Dollars. Asda/Amazon got £124.17 when selling the Wii U the rest went to Uk Gov convert that to dollars and it has already been sold for the equivalent of $200.
