Some game features probably will require a internet connection. A good example is the 1000 Club DLC in Forza Horizon which can only be played when your console is connected to the internet.

Mass Effect 2 DLCs can only be played online. Never heeard a fuss about it. I'm against it all the way because I went on vacation to place where internet was not available and couldn't play "my" purchased good.

I wouldn't call that a proper vacation if you want to spent a good deal of it playing Mass Effect 2 DLC.

Why not? After 2 weeks beaches, b*****s and drinks get boring to me. So I have to recharge my energy. What do you want me to do? Visit museums?

Usually there is tons of other stuff to do on a good vacations so by the time you get back to your hotel room you go to sleep.

Does anyone know how the current 360 with the phone like payment plan works? Mainly, can it operate without internet and if you stop paying how do they rectify that? I was led to believe this is the source of the "always online" rumors.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

I don't buy the idea that they are suddenly changing the feature and removing always-online based on a negative reaction from those of us who game and spend a lot of time online on forums and reading gaming news. If they are/were truly prepping this feature, they knew darn well that we would hate it. They wouldn't be surprised by the negative reaction to the rumors or the backlash from that twitter guy incident.

It's just that terrible of an idea.

"Offline support"? Really? Is this how our industry's journalist see it?

Ah, Dirty, you mentioned me by name. I'm touched.

I do find it funny how people are reacting as if this anonymously leaked email is somehow more credible than the leaks we got about always online, just because it's positive for the NeXbox. Of course, the previous rumors were from the same sources who were 100% right about the PS4, which does at least add to their credibility.

Now, I'm not saying this is fake, since it could very well be true. And if it is, it would seem all the backlash has caused MS to change its course on the always online subject. As of now, there are two other things MS needs to address. Whether they are continuing on a more casual path, like they have with the 360 for the past ~3 years. And if they will block used games.

I suppose we'll know all soon enough.

Oh, and one more thing. It's poor journalism to put MS's name at the beginning of the title like that. That should be reserved for when companies have actually commented on a subject officially. Not when you receive an anonymously leaked email.

Weren't the PS4 leaks from VGleaks? The same place that has also said the Nextbox plays used games and does not require the Internet? Here is what I trust: GAF. And they say this is pretty legit based on who wrote it. Who knows until MS officially reveals it but this is by far the most credible thing we have seen yet.

Regarding a changing of plans due to backlash, who honestly believes MS thought this decision would go over perfectly fine? You think they didn't expect the hardcore gamers to grab their pitchforks and swear off everything MS? lol. Blows my mind how some people think MS was completely taken aback by how negative the reaction to the rumors were.

An always-online console is such a ludicrous idea that they would have had to expect all this negativity and more. It's not something where they'd be like "well we miiiiiight go always online lets see how neogaf responds!" and then upon seeing the horror, turn it off. MS knows their stuff lol. And I am still not taking this latest tidbit as 100% fact. MS can still come out and surprise us.

I think most here don't know what arstechnica is and many people are doubting things they don't know. To me this is the most legit post since the first rumors of Durango (aside the leaked internal docs). Also this is the most current one so I guess many people are now preparing themselves for the meltdown.

What is next? Internet will not work without Xbox?

It's what I expected.  If only 46 million people are on Xbox Live on their Xboxs, then they would lose about 40% of their users.  Granted, the models before the 2010 "s" revision did not have WiFi N, but still, that is too many customers to alienate.

I heard a cry - like 43 trolls in intense pain yesterday, I wondered what it was. Now I know.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
