Forums - Gaming - WiiU and Vita owners, can we all agree that both consoles are similarly disastrous and move on?

I laugh at the 40 people who voted that the vita is less doomed,

The vita has been out for over a year and has arguably as many "high quality" titles as the 3ds, yet it's sales are rather pathetic.

The wiiU has barely anything released, 0 "high quality" titles, been out for 6 months, and has sold about the same amount of units as the 360 and ps3 did during their first 6 months.

While the wiiU sales are bad, there is nothing to say it's "doomed" since there are no "high quality" titles, if it's still selling poorly a year from now after mario 3d, mario kart U and pikmin 3 all come out, then we can say it's doomed.

The vita however, has the quality titles, and is still selling poorly.

If you mean list wars it doesn't work with Nintendo fans, all games suck if they're not Mario. So 100 games won't be impressive to them cause they'll just say they all suck.

You can't act as if you're above the argument and then turn around and throw blatant generalizations at people. Makes you seem foolish.

Either way, they're both disasters at the moment. I own both and I still love them both.

I know not every Nintendo fan thinks that way but only today I must've read plenty opinions like that in any e3 related thread.

Stuff like "when Nintendo shows Mario kart all the competition exclusives become irrelevant" is pretty common in these forums. Saying a single game can eclipse 20 other quality games is a bit.... Well, delusional to say the least. And you really can't say that the replies from some representatives of the Nintendo fan base in this thread were exactly classy, not all were bad though.

Well, that's just the recent experience with the 3DS speaking. After the price cut with a release of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 at the same time the sales of the 3DS exploded. Mario Kart currently is a bigger franchise than New Super Mario Bros, as far as we know the release of Super Mario U, Mario Kart U and a WiiU price cut could have similar effects for the WiiU. Of course the WiiU has a stronger competition with the Xbox360/Nextbox and PS3/PS4, but unless those have a stellar launch lineup they will suffer from the same problems all consoles have at launch (no gaemz) and the WiiU might have an edge over them.

Would I be right if some other Nintendo fans did not state this quite as eloquent and a bit harsher?

Both struggling. But WiiU not anywhere close to as hopelessly doomed as the Vita.

If it were baseball, the WiiU would be the Nationals. A great team, muddled by injuries and poor management, off to a meh start. But get healthy, get some better leadership, and season can turn around quite nicely. No one else in the division has broke away with a big lead.

Vita is the Miami Marlins. No money, bad management, knock-offs from other teams filling the roster, dug way too deep a hole with bad start to do **** about it. Less than 30 games in, the season is already done. Division opponents have built large lead. Start planning for next year (gen).

You know that's not what they mean. Yes those games will help Wii u with sales but they don't even have release dates. Like you said Wii u will have also to compete with ps3 and x360 and those already have quite the library.

Mario kart and a couple more Nintendo titles won't eclipse any ps4 next box reveals at e3, there's a buzz around those systems now and Nintendo, who will also get media coverage (unlike a Sony fan, wrongfully said), won't steal the media attention from that announcement.

Honestly me and many other gamers that have been playing for over 2 decades don't worship Mario, sorry. Like in Sony's systems the biggest attraction for me in Nintendo consoles would b 3rd party, like dragon quest and prof Layton. X looks awesome though and I hope there's a trailer at e3. Couldn't care less about Mario kart, its a game I'll probably end up playing at a friends house. Its my opinion like theirs is Mario is everything.

I don't see a £130 Vita yet.

To be honest, I didn't even know what the RRP for Vita was when I typed that comment (I assumed since everyone has been screaming about how much Vita is reduced, that it was £250).  But I just looked it up and you're right, £230 for wi-fi.

I got my Vita for £189 in a bundle in the holidays, so about £40 reduction (+ the game, which was supposed to be a digital voucher but I got a physical copy, long story).  I wonder what the best offer on Vita has been, because this has made me realise what a huge reduction that is on Wii-U.  I thought I got a really good deal on my Vita and that wasn't even close to £100 off.

Really good deal if you want a Wii-U though.  If it makes the comeback that some people are predicting in this thread, I actually wonder if we'll see it at this price point again.

There are similarities between the consoles, but they will pull away from each other in the long run.

Nintendo has a lot of system-seller games it is only a matter of when they releas their big Zeldas, Mario Karts, 3D Marios and Smash Brothers Games, than the WiiU will sell quite well.

The Vita is a whole different thing Sony has nog games which could sell this thing, the Vita is a awesome console but Sony has nothing which could make it a success. Sony has to hope that Rockstar is willing to develop a exclusive GTA Spinn-off that was quite successfull vor the PSP and maybe Square Enix develop something Final Fantasy related. If both happens and Sony get both of this developers to make exclusive games for than than maybe Sony still has a chance to make a success out of the vita.

Nintendo is without a doubt in a way better position they have it in their own hands and they sure will make a success out of the WiiU it is only a matter ot time.

The KEY difference here between these two consoles, which non-fanboys will recognize, is that Vita does not have the BIG franchise hits that Wii U is inevitably going to get, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Zelda, Wii Fit, etc., that are GUARANTEED to sell lots of copies, and even sell units of the system itself. Vita does not have that luxury, of tried and true Nintendo franchises. So while they may be in similar situations right this moment, it's pertinent to point out that Wii U has been out for 6 months or so. Vita has been out for well over a year now, and still hasn't really picked up any steam. The DIFFERENCE is, that Wii U inevitably WILL eventually pick up steam.

A great shame for Vita, certainly. But a great (future) boon for Wii U.

I love when peole say wii u has great competition from ps360, it's as if the next consoles won't compete with their last gen. who is going to pay over $400 for a ps4/nextbox when the multiplatforms are also on the less expensive wii u and ps360? the only reason would be exclusives and so far there's like, 2 anounced.

even though nintendo failed to take full advantage of the headstart, it's still in advantage because the next consoles will release against an established competitor that has a lower price and many AAA exclusives. good luck for them, they'll need.

The Wii U has little to no chances of "selling well"?

No Wii Sports, no Wii Play, no Wii Fit, no 3D Mario, no Zelda, no Metroid, no Super Smash Bros., no Mario Party, no Animal Crossing and not even a Mario Kart title has arrived yet. And you are already certain that the Wii U has low chances of selling well?

That's nice, I guess.

I mean, if well means N64 numbers then it's possible. That's why I wrote "well" with quote marks. It's not like those franchises made the N64 or GC sell gangbusters. The Wii series is an uncertainty but we'll see.

And Vita also has chances of selling N64 numbers anyway.

What it comes down to is that we should stop fighting about these two beacuse they're both a disaster. Vita is a disaster. WiiU is a disaster.

vita is a disaster, it's 1 and a half year old and has no big game released or anounced yet.

wii u is six months old and is getting it's AAA titles on the next few months. wii u is definetely doing bad NOW, but it's no disaster. I can't wait for next box and ps4 to release and sell sub wii u numbers, then see if sony/micro fans will call them doomed.

If Nextbox and PS4 sell sub-WiiU-numbers the game industry is in for a big crash. That will be no fun for gamers. Lets not hope that happens.

Take it as it is: WiiU is a disaster sales-wise. Sure, I love to play MH3U, Lego City, NFS and ZombiU. But that doesn't change the fact, that for most of the population the WiiU wasn't interesting enough to put the money on the table. Yes, Nintendo has a lot of options left to save the device. Let's hope that will work. But at the moment it is in the same pit the Vita is.
