I'm pretty sure every developer that receibed the Durango DevKit knows the finalized specs.

Lets be honest, if the next box is 6 months delayed it wont release this year. If it does it will go through a nasty drought of games Wii U style. Actually the rumor that says they have cancelled project in itself is worrying. Why would they cancel exclusives they will need so much down the line? Either these rumors are bogus or Microsoft is shooting itself on the foot consecutively.

If trustworthy sources at GAF are to be believed MS pocket book and cash will more than make up the difference

Look, harware change = 6-8 monthis  delay, minimum (unless you add more memory or other "simple" stuff. Both consoles are supposed to come out in November this year. This means that:

a) ALL parts have been ordered months ago. All contracts were signed months ago.

b) Manufacturing of the first batch begins now. You always make an initial batch and test those before going into full production mode.

Anybody who thinks there is any major component change at this stage (because of a February event)  is simply deluded.

They're all under NDA, so they can't give out that kind of information. Well, unless they don't value their jobs. Look what happened to Adam Orth.

I don't know what to say about this. Production yields don't make sense to me unless those move engines command a lot of electricity. The APU should be similar to Sony's and if Sony is ready to start production MS shouldn't be having these problems. Unless MS is upping the clock speeds, then this will cause a lot of troubles and will be the RROD all over again, since MS was pushing the thermals to the limit for the 360 at launch. Cancelling a lot of games is really telling of their first party situation (They suck or to my next point). I'm sure this will be one huge troll when the console is announced (Unless everything is staged like their E3 kinect demos).

i see more speculation over on NeoGaf than actual confirmation, also this should labeled rumour.

That's kind of the point of the article.

 

Assuming a November 21 launch for Durango, this will be a very short time between announcement and release, which (it is hypothesised by the author) means that it will be the console  unprepared for launch.

 

Tim ebetween launch and release:

Durango - 6 months

360 - 6 months

PS4 - 9 months

PS2 12 months

Wii - 14 months

PS3 - 18 months

WiiU - 19 months

Xbox - 21 months

 

Now, the early release of the 360 is often cited as why RROD was such a big thing, and we have no idea whether the PS4 will have launch games, so I think it is very significant that there is so little time between launch and release.

 

However, that is far from saying that Durango is doomed. WiiU has had only 2 significant games since launch (both at launch) and yet by it's 2nd Christmas it is likely to have a lot and be selling quite well, so even if Durango launches with no big games that'll only be a short term thing - the games will be there in late 2014 and if another RROD sized bug occurs, MS has the cash to extend the warranty like they did with RROD.

MS has proven to be very secretive this release, I wouldn't be surprised if many of the rumours are smoke to keep the competition guessing. As the competition said "why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?"
